I'm going to make this post for all the newcomers that want to have an opinion about lenses. On this website, you can select the camera model and the lens and it will take you to images that were taken with the selected combination. Now it doesn't mean you'll successfully make the same quality images, but if it can help you make up your mind about a certain lens, then enjoy.

Here's the link

Pretty cool, I usually do a google search of a particular lens/camera combo but this is a great resource as well for lens shoppers. :D

Brilliant lens!!! My desert island, one only choice. I have the 2.8 AI-S version and cant see the point of AF of a micro/macro lens as 90% of the time you will be focussing manually. Save $$$ and buy the old lenses...

Do you mean in combination with specific lenses? Because all those cameras are listed there.

Yes the cameras are listed. Tried D610 and could get only for 50mmf1.8, f1.4 but not f1.2. Tried 28mmf2.8, 14mmf2.8 and 24mmf2.8 - no photos. Similarly with 300mmf4. These are the lenses I was interested in, did not try other camera/lense combination.

Ah. Yeah, some aren't showing. I have just search for images taken with specific lenses but didn't choose camera model - or chose another camera which would also be full frame. It's because people hide the information in Flickr..

Does anyone have a link to a 'spreadsheet' style document that looks at lenses for Nikon bodies. Data should include model number, FX/DX, Prime. Also it would be great to have a 'what it's suitable for' etc. I'm having trouble finding this info in an easy to understand layout.
Thanks
Brad

As a newbie I would love to get some recommendations from you guys. I am purchasing Nikon D800E and are really torn when it comes to the lens selection. Ideally I want to have about 3 lenses that would cover all my needs for the time being. My main purposes: headshot / portrait photography (both in studio settings and outdoors), macro option (something like photographing body parts with tattoos on them, in details), and then more general option like senior portrait photography that is mostly done outdoors. What are your recommendations for the best selection on lenses for it? I am ready to pay some $, of course, but don't currently want to go into the field of like $3,000 per lens, not yet... At the same time I want something that will serve me well for a few years. Thanks!

The Nikon 85mm f/1.8 is a great portrait lens that doesn't cost a lot. A 70-200mm f/2.8 would work quite well for what you want, but they tend to be rather expensive.
