Dirty monitor

How many people enable the “touch screen” capability on their cameras? I’ve resisted it, because I don’t care for them; they may be faster, but after much use they turn into a greasy mess.

I use mine quite often, and have to admit I've never had problems with Greasy Mess Syndrome. I mean, we all have lens cloths clogging up our desks, camera bags, cases, pockets, etc., right? Grabbing one every now and again and giving it a swirl or two does wonders (I'll use a fine misting of eyeglass lens cleaner sometimes, too). Try it and see! :encouragement:

Any concerns about scratching the screen? I assume this is some type of durable glass.

No concerns at all, and no issues at all since doing it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest the folks making these things took into account that people would be using the screens as well as cleaning them, and designed them accordingly. I honestly think you'll be fine unless you do something like take a Brillo pad to it :)

I'd be curious to hear if any of the other members here have experienced otherwise!

You might want to look into some type of screen protector for your body. I've been using this one on mine although I don't have a touch screen.

In the book “Nikon D5600 for dummies” by Julie Adair King, she says not to use a screen protector as it may inhibit the touch function and/or damage the monitor, so I’ve held off on that.

I don't have that body so fully understand your hesitation. If you want a recommendation for microfiber cleaning cloths, these are really nice and come in a variety of options for how many per package - MagicFiber Microfiber Cleaning Cloths.

Or...tongue-in-cheek comment...if you become a Nikonites contributor, you will receive a Nikonites microfiber cloth from jdeg. ;)

(pssst...when I became a contributer last year and asked about that offer, I was told no more were available. Not a problem for me who has several others already. But if that's a contributing factor in someone else's decision to become or not become a contributer...wellllll.....)

I will check with jdeg to see what's up with that. Thanks for letting me know.

I’m left eye dominant... that means I often get my nose on the rear screen. Very annoying. But a quick rub with my shirt sleeve (read microfibre cloth) generally does the job.

I’ve a screen protector....but while that potentially protects from scratches, it’s not going to prevent my nose touching!

Looking at the z6/7 as the eye piece protrudes further back, which might keep my nose at bay.
