Look at the pricing on Medium Format cameras... then tell me what the profit margins are on a $10,000+ camera versus a $2,000 camera...

I don't really see it as "late" I myself. Most mirrorless options are fine to a certain extent, but most have extremely limited lens selections. Most of the folks that I know who own mirrorless also own a dslr system of some sort

According to a recent PPA article, pros who shoot medium format think that makes them look more professional.

In short, that 35mm film camera that you picked up from the flea market may not be able to outperform the latest digital cameras, but a medium format or large format unit can deliver and exceed the same resolution of Phase One’s latest $40,000 camera system.

Someone would have to buy them before there is any profits to be had.
Yea, pro's might buy them and hobbyists that have money to throw around, but regular Joe's that make up most of the DSLR market now , will not.

Correct... That's what's hurting them... the consumer entry segment isn't profitable for Nikon...the higher end pro end is... "focus on what you're best at"

I won't deny I'd like to get my hands on a MF to play around with. But that said, my travel kit is heavy enough without needing to add more weight just to look professional. I already look like a professional baggage handler. :)
and don't forget to factor in the extra cost!

The Nikon USA website is showing the D810 "on sale" for $2,800, and instant saving of $800. I wonder if that means a successor is coming soon.

ETA: D'oh! Wrong thread...
