Hi

Looking to spend around £600 on a replacement body, Iv seen such bodys as D7000/7100, D600 and a D800 all around or just over the £600 mark. Other than condition and collection to try out with hands on the Body. What would you say is an exceptable useage for the shutter count in a used body please?
Also anything else I should be looking for in these 3 bodys please? Thank you.

Regards Os

What body do you have now? What do you shoot? How much do you shoot?

Remember that all your lenses for your D70 will not work on the D600 and D800. They are FX cameras and your D70 is a DX camera. The glass for those cameras will cost more than the camera does.

Look at the D7100 / D7200 bodies.

Adding to Don's comment, not only will the D7x00 line work with your current lenses, but you should be able to find D7100 bodies within your price range. The D7100s are still shown as factory refurbished well in your price range, and is an excellent camera.

I agree with the previous posts. And DX lenses you have for your D70 will not work with the FX D600 and D800. If you have some older film lenses that you use on your D70, they are FX lenses. If, however, you only have DX lenses then you must factor in new lenses you will blow out your £600 budget skyhigh. For what it is worth, I came from a D70 to the D7200 (with a D200 in between) and could not be happier. And yes, I have older film days lenses that would work on an FX body, but still feel no overwhelming need to go FX.

The D800 got stuck with a studio queen label. The D600 got stuck with the best avoided label (due to common oil spot issues). Expected shutter life cycle on the D800 is 200,000. 150,000 on the D600 and D7100. All down to price i guess

Hi All

Thanks for all your answears. So rearly it looks like the D7*00 series is the ony way to go unless I want to spend a lot more. As for the lenses I use and love My 80-200 F2.8 So need the new body to work with that. I have also just seen the Sigma 5-500 F4-6.3 Bigma lens that im hanging my nose over So with that and a £600 Body would about spend the proceeds of a hobby I have just packed up and sold all the gear. So I might as well put it to something that will stand the test of time. And if lasts as long as my D70 and the rest of my other Nikon gear and still be in great working order It will be well worth it.

I have the Nikon 80-200 and it works great on my D7200, so should also be great on a D7100. I think you are talking about the Sigma 50-500. That would be a lot of lens to pack around on a daily basis and would only give you a 75mm on the bottom end and a lot of overlap with the 80-200. You might instead consider a used mid-range zoom like an 18-70mm. This was the original kit lens for the D70 and so is pretty available. This combination would give you a equivalent range of 27-300mm and would be much lighter to pack than the Bigma.

But the 50-500 would be fantastic for sports or especially for wildlife. I have the Tamron 150-600 and I love it for birds.

Au, contraire, those lenses will work with the D600 and the D800. Those lenses would cause the D600 and D800 to automatically reformat from the FX format to the DX format, which is a downgrade in my opinion, but they will work.

To me that is not working. Yes you will get a downgraded photo and my opinion that is not working. If you use a DX lens you will actually get a better photo using a D7?00 model camera

I used to have the non OS 50-500mm, its a good lens for the money. I sold it and bought a Nikon 80-400mm when they first came out and regretted it, that lens soon went.

But would you really want to lug the 4.3 lb. bigma around everyday and have nothing less than 75mm to shoot with? That is why I am recommending a mid range zoom for your everyday lens.

And yes, I have the Sigma 150-600mm which is great, but I also have other lenses.

Hey, most of the time i lug an 8.6 lb Nikon 500mm f/4 round, handheld as well!:D I'm not suggesting that the OP uses a Bigma for everything, just stating its a good lens really

Hi thanks for the reply.. Its not the lower end I am after as I do still have the stock D70 lense plus my fish eye and new Tamron zoomwhich takes me to 300mm But it was more the 500mm I was aiming towards Other than if I bought a decent quality 2x Tele Converor to give me 400 at F5.6 with the 80-200. (ThinkingI dont know why I bought the new Tamron at the birdfair I could have just got a 1.4x teleconvertor and saved myself £250 But I had not bought anything and it seemed a wasted day till I had DoHHH)Iv not tried it. Infact Iv not used a teleconvertor since a M42 screw Zenit E Camera Body I used to own.. Now I am showing my age LOL
