Any full frame owners going to pick up the D500 just for the speed ??

I currently own a D750 but am thinking about picking up a D500 for the 10fps and the huge buffer. That would be alot of continous speed for bird photography, sports etc.

Massive fps and buffer is just something that doesn't really over excite me. Fast AF does. Maybe its just me, but i dont find the fps or buffer really lacking on my D810 or D7200 even for fast jets or bif shots

I guess all depends what youre shooting...I could def use the speed & buffer while shooting Eagles diving for fish..

Had a chance to play with the D5 and D500 last night at a Nikon rollout at the local camera superstore. I was specifically interested in the D500 to go along with my 200-500 lens (to replace my 7200). My take on the D500:

Crazy fast @ 10fps and big buffer + XQD for speed
better ISO (also crazy for a DX, although I've shot @ 40K on the 7200)
tilty screen like 750 with touch capability
sub selector allows you to move focus points easier
ISO button now on top right eliminating need to map video button to ISO. Gives manual shooters one hand control of exposure triangle.

The D5 is even cooler (of course). They're touting expanded ISO (Hi5) of 3Million. So, I took some shots at Hi5 (with SS high and @f/22) and yeah, there was noise, but there was a photograph. Then shot @100,000 and things looked good.

Since I just got the 7200 to go with my 200-500 in October, I'm going to give it a chance before dumping it for a D500. Plus, being a cheapskate, I like to buy refurbed and it'll take a while until a supply of refurbs hit Nikon's site during a 10% off sale.

While I think both cameras make for great additions to the lineup neither camera really excites me, personally.

So... No, not even tempted right now.

Speed? No, if I wanted just speed I'd get a D5 (or the new 1D X - holy moly, played with one Sunday for 5 minutes and as Forrest Gump says, that's all I have to say about that).

Reach and ISO for wildlife? Yes, absolutely. I don't care about fps as much as I do about the buffer size. I'll be waiting, however. I shoot RAW so it's useless to me until Adobe has support, which will be 3-4 months (I'm not in enough of a hurry to add a Nikon program to my workflow). And given that they've already delayed the roll out I'll wait to see if there's any issues first.

I can always lower the resolution of my other cams to increase bursts. When I halve my D810, I ain't that far from the D500.

I just checked; at 1.5x my bursts max out. At 1.2x (24Mpix) I shoot 52 before it starts to slow and I ain't got the fastest card in the world in it. That's both plenty enough for me.

Yes. But i do a lot of motorsports photography. And airplanes, and other moving stuff. I'll ditch the D7100 for it, and the D750 will be a nice mate for the D500. With those two cameras I WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!!!

Or take lots of pictures and have a good time doing it.

I'm basicly with @BackdoorHippie on this. FPS not important as much as buffer size. Anything would be better than the D7100 in that regard.
ISO and reach yes. If it would get me close to the D750 in the ISO department then I might consider it. Unfortunately for me, I would not be able to keep both the D750 and the D500, so it's really a mute point. I didn't realize how nice it was to have a backup camera until the D750 went down. But it's nice to have dreams.

Sports i dont do but i can see a possible need for the extras the D500 has if your a sports shooter, for wildlife dont need a faster frame rate my D7200 is only ever on CL anyway, better focus ability and ISO yes thats the two main temptations for me.

I personally am more and more attracted to the new Pentax. A pricy beast but it'd be a nice upgrade. Nothing for birding however.

Must admit i could be unfaithful but with me its the olympus system, they are just not a lot of good for wildlife though.

I'm more and more interested in shooting people and the medium format would be nice. But I'm used to having a nice range of lenses to pick from which I doubt will be the case in that format. Not to say I'd probably have to ditch all my Nikons to afford a switch.

Though I am not a full frame owner, I'd like to have this one in my collection. Main reasons being extremely high ISO and a 4K video. These features, combined with a flipping display, make the D500 a good choice for videographers and photographers shooting indoors, especially...
