2nd camera purchase?

I currently own the nikon d600 which I am getting to ship in for the sensor replacement. So I find myself without a camera as I sold my D5100 last year (regrettable now) So do I splurge and get another Full Frame or go DX for this purchase. I am honestly not sure how much its going to be used. I found myself in a situation where the last couple shoots I did I really could of used a 2nd body... but you know how that goes when you have two you don't need two. And no before you even suggest it I am not willing to spend 4 grand on a new body one can dream but um no. Oh and all of my lenses are currently FX.

I appreciate all of your feed back as I am trying to have the ends justify the means!

Thanks in advance

Unless you absolutely need it I don't see much point getting another FX body so a DX body would probably be the better choice. Maybe a D7100 which you can get pretty cheap these days or even a D7200 if you don't mind spending a bit more.

It all depends on what you shoot. I have a D600 and D7100, for me, having a second body is pretty much essential. Going DX would serve two purposes, giving you a backup and giving you a little better performance with certain scenarios like wildlife.

If you shoot a lot then I say get a second body for sure.

You know it only takes about 10 days at maximum for Nikon to receive, fix, and get your D600 back to you, right?

If you absolutely can't live without a camera for those 10 days, I'd look on eBay for a used DX... starting with a D300

I currently have 2 FX Nikon's (D800E, D700) and the D7100 as my DX Nikon! So I honestly believe having a second Nikon for back up is a great idea! If you don't need extra reach, another FX is the way I would go! But if you shoot wildlife sometimes, then a good DX Nikon is the way to go! :)
I prefer my FX Nikon's, but now and then a DX nikon comes in very handy! :D

What type of photography do you do most? And what type of lens do you use most? Wide angle? Normal? Telephoto? If you go with a DX body and all your lenses are FX, you will be limited on the wide end.

I have two FX bodies and a DX all of which are used for certain things. The DX is mainly for shooting the local high school's drama productions because when it is coupled with my 70-200mm lens, it eliminates the need for cropping. For almost everything else, I prefer FX. If you shoot some wildlife, you might enjoy the extra reach of a DX body.

it says Experience:Semi-Pro

a D750 is what I suggest. price came down to $1900. or you might consider going for the grey D810 and get a mack vip diamond warranty for an all risk coverage.

Ok so the D600 gets shipped out today and no decision on a second body. I am really really really into macro these days so I don't really have any shoots lined up I can live with out it for a bit ... I HOPE lol

Thanks for the advice everyone I am probably leaning to another FX body thinking the 750 or the 810?

If you are really, really, really into macro as you say, then a DX will yield a larger photo without having the need to crop as much or use extension tubes as often depending upon the subject.

Any of the D8xx series works pretty good for macro! They allow plenty of cropping "if" needed! :)

This was with my D800E! :)
