Its a $200 difference on them and trying to decide! Is the 7100 worth the extra 200?
My first DSLR and want to shoot pics of my 11 & 9 year old girls playing soccer, and volleyball and portraits too!!
Used to run my Olympus OM-10 at the Balloon Festivals and old Mining towns in Colorado . At the Albuquerque Balloon Festival i would shoot 500 pics on the film camera and having fun . When the kids came I went to my point &shoot for convenience but want to get back into the quality shots !

Are the two cameras in question previously enjoyed? New? Is the seller motivated to sell? What are the shutter counts for both cameras? Are they in great shape physically? Do they each come with a kit lens (18-55, 18-105, etc.)? Any accessories or batteries that come with the cameras? If it was my money, I'd be going for the D7100. But...it's your choice. :) Maybe this will help you decide:

hi there!,

as someone who has owned the D7k and is currently the proud owner of the D7100 it is a no brainer. save up the extra dollars and get the D7100, the improvement to the AF system alone is worth the extra!

From someone who currently shoots with and loves the D7000 .... I'm saving my pennies for a D7100 purchase as soon as I can. It is that much better given everything I've heard and read.

I will say this; the D7000 is probably more camera than I would "need" anytime soon. But if I'm going to produce the best possible photos that I can, I "want" the best equipment that I can afford. Since my next step in lenses is likely to cost in the thousands rather than a few hundred difference in camera body upgrade, it's my logical next step.

Just my .$02 and YMMV.

Everyone is going to tell you to buy what they own. My opinion is that you can get more mileage out of good glass and technique than you can out of a better body. I can put a $2500 lens on my D7000 and get amazing photographs. I can put a $100 lens on a $3000 body and get crap. I haven't shot with a 7100, but I have used a 5300 and it's awesome. For $200 more, if everything else is equal, I'd get the 7100.

Always so much to do and learn with a new camera body but I'm going to go ahead and suggest you take the time to calibrate your lenses. I used to think it lens calibration wasn't really any big deal... Then I actually took the time and did it. Based on my experience I can't suggest you take the time and do this too strongly.

I use the Dot Tune Method but there are other options.
