What do you think this is?

Ok so I got another D300s and received it earlier. It looks fine but had almost 78K clicks on it.

I was inspecting it and found out something inside the chamber adjacent to the mirror and the prism.

What do you think this is? It looks like oil but it is not wet. I think I remember seeing them in the old F3HP I used to have.

Thy look like tool marks to me. Maybe the previous owner was poking around in there with a small screwdriver or something. Is it affecting the shots at all? The marks don't seem to be in the way of the mirror function or anything else. It might be worth taking it in to a Nikon tech and see what it really is.

Thanks jack. It does look like tool marks but it also looks like dried superglue. I was wondering if this is a "wear" mark and is common. Unfortunately I am a long ways away from a camera technician.

Can you get your finger in to feel the texture?
I would imagine glue to be a little more messier than that, so my bets would be on some kind of wear on that bit

I would just leave it alone if it doesn't affect the camera operation.

If you have a sensor cleaner, you might be able to remove the goo off.
