External flash would not synchronize with my D80.

Hi everybody.
Not sure if the question is appropriate in my case, but I have recently bought a used D80 from Ebay, and a Chinese flash for it. It is Yinyan BY-24ZP.

Before that I had a minor problem with my camera - non working built-in flash, which was repaired here in my home town in Armenia. Now it works just fine.

However, when I got this external flash a problem occurred. It would not synchronize with the camera in modes other than M, S, A, P.

I though it is because of the flash (well, you know, it's Chinese...), but I checked it on my friends Canon, and it worked just perfectly in all modes.

So, the question is: what could be the problem with the flash/camera? And how to solve it?
Please do not advise official repair shops, since there do not exist in my country and the closest is in Moscow... I would send it for repair there only as the last chance...
Thanks in advance for advice and support...

The camera would not allow changes for any flash settings in Auto mode... however, it has the following unchangeable settings:
Buil-in-flash - TTL
Flash warning - ON
Flash sutter speed - 1/60
Auto FP - OFF
Modelling flash - OFF

That looks right. So when you're in A or S mode, what do you see when you press the shutter release button and what does the resulting image look like?
