do not, under any circumstances, use another make or model of AC adapter

I hoped one of you smart photographers might kindly answerthis question.

I picked up a Nikon AW130 waterproof camera to replace mylast waterproof camera is currently useless because I lost the specificcharger. I know I could replace the charger, but the camera is getting oldanyway.

When I looked at the AW130 I noticed that the batteryremains in the camera while you charge it with the provided micro-USB cablethat that looks identical to the thousand or so other micro-usb cables I havethat came with other devices. The manual says "you can charge the batteryby connecting the camera to a computer" or by connecting the cable to thecharger that is provided. Therefore, I thought you could use any 5V chargingblock and micro-usb cable to charge it, alleviating the annoying problem oflosing the specific charging device required to charge that battery (like I didwith my last waterproof camera).

However, I see the manual includes the dire warning belowsaying "do not, under any circumstances, use another make or model of ACadapter", and "do not use a commercially available USB-AC adapter ora battery charger for a mobile phone". WHAT? Is that just a BS warningthey put on every device they manufacture or is it a real concern?

The Nikon charger is 5V and 1.0 Amps.
I gather a computer USB port can deliver anywhere between0.1-0.9 Amps.
A decent generic charger is typically 5V and 2.0 Amps.

My question is: is the warning actually valid? Is the camerabattery going to overheat if I charge the camera by using the cord and 2.0 ampcharger that comes with my Samsung Phone?

    Thanks and season's greetings!
    Darryl

Me suspects a strong case of "Lawyer Speak." I would not hesitate to use the a good quality USB AC charger since it would probably be more reliable than any cheap computer USB port.

Thank you sir! Lawyer Speak is what I was thinking also. From an electronics perspective, it makes no sense that you couldn't use a good quality SB charging block.

    Appreciate the answer!

I use one of these smart chargers for many of my small electronics...iPhone and iPod included. I also charge bluetooth headphones with it. They do suggest using the original charging cords that come with devices.
