Nikon Coolpix 5700 replacement battery cover

A year or so ago, I bought a second hand Coolpix 5700 for my girlfriend but it was listed as having a broken battery cover. It worked but one of the hinge pins was broken off so it was in danger of getting lost. I did a brief search for a replacement but came up with nothing apart from one site which said it was discontinued.

I have been imagining how I might fix it for months and a few days ago, I decided to try to repair it by drilling a tiny hole and inserting a metal pin. It almost worked but then I realised that the unbroken pin was not long enough to engage. I tried to affect the same repair on that side but unfortunately, it only got worse.

The cover still works but it is now additionally annoying that my repair plan failed and I am again looking for a replacement with the same results as last time.

I have a part number; either 636-065-2477 for the bit which is broken or 636-065-2477 (assy) for the whole thing and it is exactly the same as the battery cover on the Coolpix 8700.

Can anybody suggest where I might be able to obtain one, please?

look for a used 5700 if you like the camera that much or replace it with a p610. Camera built 2002, imo upgrade best solution.

I am an insomniac and tried to reply to the suggestions made at about 2.30am on my iPad but my hand brushed the Cancel button and I lost everything even though I thought it had been auto saved.

Anyway, regarding buying a spares or repair camera, I actually had the same thought as I was trying to get to sleep. I looked on eBay but all the cameras either fully working and not sensibly priced for my purposes but I will keep my eye out. And, if I buy one as spares or repair, I could sell it afterwards as spares or repair again, I suppose; the cost might then be minimal.

I am in the UK, sorry, I should have mentioned that.

As ever, the situation is more detailed than I wrote in the initial post. I have actually given my girlfriend a Nikon Coolpix S4 now. She's not really into photography but I am trying to encourage her not to depend on her iPhone to take photos.

I am not particularly wedded to the 5700 other than in 2003 it was my first ever digital camera having had a variety of Pentax SLRs for the previous 20 years. I remember it was £799 which was over ten times what I paid for the one I bought my girlfriend a couple of years ago - they are now going for about £30. I just didn't want it to end up being left in its bag and never used. My girlfriend actually prefers the 5700 as it suits her eyesight better due to it having a viewfinder with diopter adjustment.

An upgrade is not really on the cards unless she wants to buy something herself. However, I am very tempted, as I have mentioned elsewhere, to buy a P900 as a toy to keep in my camera bag. I know it has its limitations but as one review I read said, it's basically a telescope which takes photos and bearing that in mind, I think it will be worth having for when my subject is too far away.
