Lost camera transfer cable.... :-(

Hello, I have a Nikon Coolpix S3300. Didn't use it for sometime. Now I need to transfer some photos but can't find the little cable that came with the camera purchase. It seems I'll have to buy another one, could someone tell me what kind? Does it have to be a Nikon's?

Thanks so very much for any ideas! :) Adela

You don't have to have the cable. The camera has a SD card for storage. All you have to do is pop the card out and plug it into your computer. You can download from there. If you absolutely want to use the cable then just make sure it has the proper ends on it.

Oh that's wonderful Don! Thank you so much for telling me. I was looking for the cheapest possible cable as a temporary one since I do have the Nikon cable somewhere in my apt. but just can't find it and I need it now. Your idea is terrific but...where do I find the slot for the tiny card? I looked all over my Dell desktop Inspiron 560 and don't see it. Could you indicate to me where it can be maybe?

Thanks again! Adela

Using a card reader to just read the card is normally the best plan.

But the cable is a standard USB cable, USB 2.0 A-Male to Mini-B

Amazon.com: nikon coolpix s3300 cable

or

Amazon.com: usb cable mini

Hello and thank you Wayne, but as I explained to Don, if I can't use the card, then I'll buy the cheapest I can find as a temporary as I know I do have the Nikon cable but can't find it and I need it now. So my question: Can I use this cheap one without damaging the camera?:Belkin™ 6' Sync/Charge USB Data Transfer Cable | Staples®
More here same price: camera transfer cable | Staples® but don’t know which to get.

Thanks again for any advice. Adela

The Nikon USB cable is the UC-E6

Thanks very much Lens. Pleasantly surprised that Amazon has your recommended Nikon model UC-E6. There are both Nikon and compatibles, do you think I could buy any of these without my camera getting damaged? Of course, I won't be able to go pick it up...

thank you for your response to this. Adela

there is a 19 in 1 card reader somewhere on the computer. It would normally be on the front of the computer case. look for a small slot the the SD card will fit in.

Thanks again Don, in the front I see only 2 vertical slots for the flash drive and didnt see any inn the back and I even looked all around it. Maybe this model doesn't have it, what a shame...I hope I can find a very cheap one just for this time... You've all been awfully helpful to me and I appreciate it a lot. Thanks again! Adela

P.S. What's "19 in 1"?

I looked at the specs for your computer and it does have it. Will be on the front and not the back. You say you see the slots for the flash drive. SD CARD is flash drive. Is the what you are calling the USB drive ?

Don, not all computers include card readers.

In that event, I recommend a USB type card reader. My D7100 didn't even come with a cable, I've been using the card reader for about two years now.

You may find the reader in this manual: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/Common/inspiron-560_setup guide_en-us.pdf

Page 16 shows the rectangular panel (item 8), it appears the card reader may have been optional on your computer.

If wayne is right about the type of cable that your computer uses, you can pick any of these cables from monoprice.com. They're rediculously cheap and I've ordered from them in the past and have never had an issue with their service or products (in fact my $2000 Plasma TV has been hanging on the wall for 2.5 years using a $30 mount from monoprice).

Thank again Don, but the narrow side of my memory card doesn't fit into either of these 2 slots.

What is "SD CARD"? I'll just wait until I have the chance of buy the cable in a few days. Thanks so much! :) Adela
