Exclamation Nikon Coolpix S5200 - Power Button Not Working

    Hello,

I have a Nikon Coolpix S5200. For some reason, this camera has a lot of trouble working after being plugged into the computer. The green light blinks when it is plugged in but the computer will not recognize the camera nor will the camera power on. I've tried this in 2 separate computers.

Is this a hardware failure issue or a bug in this specific model? It seems odd that it does this right after it has been plugged in the computer. The camera is fairly new (less than 6 months) and we've recently replaced the charger and used 2 separate batteries but the issue still persists.

I would appreciate any assistance with this issue. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum,do you really need to connect it to the computer as this can cause some odd behavior, try using a card reader.

It's possible for us to just use a card reader going forward. I was unaware that connecting the camera directly to a computer would cause these issues. We had an older Nikon Coolpix camera and it never experienced any problems when connecting it to a computer.

Are there any troubleshooting techniques to at least get the camera to power on again?

Sorry i missed the bit about it still not powering up,connecting to the pc shouldn't cause long term problems just silly things sometimes while connected.

I'm hoping the hardware isn't malfunctioning or plugging it into the computer didn't cause a short somehow. Any troubleshooting techniques would be greatly appreciated. The camera doesn't appear to have any kind of corrosion inside the battery chamber.

Looking at the manual it would like you charge the battery in camera,if you have a problem when connected to the pc it could be the usb socket on the camera is damaged and doesn't charge the battery or communicate with the pc,but that's just a guess.
I dont know how you could check battery condition if the camera will not turn on.

Bit more info from the instructions in trouble shooting about charging, are you following these instructions, did you replace the charger to overcome this problem, did you use the new cable that came with it or stick with the old one.

We have a wall charger for the battery and it has an indicator that will let you know when the battery is fully charged. It should have been fully charged when we tried this but it's worth placing the battery back into the charger and seeing how much power it has right now. Thanks for your assistance, Mike.

The camera should still be under warranty. I would send it back to get it repaired before the warranty expires.

MikeW, are you saying that using a camera as it is meant to be used (charge cord) can cause problems? Isn't that suggestive of a problem in design or manufacture?
