Z8 playback and all rear buttons become unusable unit battery is reseated

Removing and resetting the battery resolves the problem. Sometimes it will reoccur shortly thereafter, other times not. This is random and not reproducible. I haven't found any set of circumstances where it happens. I purchased the z8 in December of 23 and the first time it occurred was in June. It has happend on a half a dozen times since.
Has Nikon recognized this problem?

Do you have a second battery to try? The other thing would be to clean the contacts on the battery and the camera. Other than that, I would call Nikon CS.

Perhaps reload the firmware on a freshly-charged battery. At least take that point away from Nikon customer support as it usually is an early thing any manufacturer will try to use as an excuse.

Thanks, Interesting points about the battery and the firmware.
I mainly use the EN-EL15c that came with the body. If that's charging or whatever I'll temporarily use a EN-EL15 spare, originally from my D750 or D500. I have not noticed any failures related to those batteries but I haven't been paying particular attention to those as the source of the problem.

I also use a remote Vello micro remote on the ten pin connector. It occasionally fails to work. It failed on me the other day and in a simple test it is now working. I know I reseated the battery, or did it just happen to work again. Next time that fails I will first reseat the battery as I'm looking for a common denominator.
