Upgrade path from D2H

I have a friend who has inherited a D2H and a bunch of lenses - Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D, 105mm f/2.8D; 20~70mm f/2.8D(IF); 17-55mm f/2.8F IF ED; plus a flash and a bunch of filters and whatnot.

We're both Canon users so far but my friend would like to make use of this collection but the body does something like 4MP. What might be a favourable upgrade path or body replacement (assuming the lenses are worth the effort)? I looked at a full sensor body from China but the import costs were too much. For a hobbyist, what might be a good replacement body?

All the gear listed was the good stuff, but by 23 years ago standards. The lenses would be great for somebody using a 1990's film body because they are all using the old style screw-drive autofocus system. The 17-55mm lens being the one with a built-in AF motor and can be used on more bodies. But that 17-55mm is also a crop-sensor lens and not so useful on a full-frame sensor body. The screw-drive autofocus lenses are just slow and noisy to focus by today's standard.

So if you are into vintage gear, the lenses are fine for something like a D610, D810, or a D750. Those bodies are not the pro-level that the D2H was nearly 3 decades ago, but they have at least the same or better level of features. 24MP sensors also. Lenses would be great with a Nikon F5 film body.

But if I was invested in Canon gear and inherited that kit, I think I would sell it all to one of the regular used camera vendors and take it as credit to buy some nice Canon gear. But another option is to sell the Nikon kit and possibly most of the Canon stuff and reinvest in a mirrorless body and lenses. SLR cameras are at the end of the development road for everybody now.
