Unclaimed Property

I actually see a listing for my mother's estate (deceased 22 years) but it does not show on the State of Wisconsin official unclaimed property database. So I question the accuracy of the Missing Money site. Might be a lot of obsolete data. The amount of money listed was under $50 anyhow. No hits for me or any of my other close relatives.

Every State has their own "abandoned property" which you can search for and rightfully claim...for free... There are web site aggregators similar to the one above, that scab off the State's websites, and for a "fee" and with your consent, will claim those assets. They'll send you all the state's necessary forms and their assignment for signatures... Basically, you fill out the forms the state requires and provide all the necessary identities, and they simply forward the package on to the respective state.... while charging you a fee...

We got some money back a couple times. I think both times was some kind of utility deposit.
It was easy to make a claim.

Wayne got some money a while back.

@Whiskeyman
Yes, I did. I was able to get it because I found an old paper pay statement with the address associated with the claim.

Since I didn't have any of my old checks or billing statements from back then, I figured I was out of luck since filing the claim required some such documentation. Then, one day while I was browsing through an old book of mine when I found the pay statement that I had once used as a bookmark. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but it was north of $500 and south of $1000.

Interesting!! Only those states participating in MissingMoney are displayed. California is not displayed so I can't get any AMissingMoney. Is this a scam?? :mad:
I didn't go through this site, but the State of Florida's site, so I can't say whether it's a scam or not. My claim was paid fairly rapidly, and while it didn't make me rich, it was a nice benefit to have.

When I moved back to Florida, I was contacted by a representative of a law office about them helping me file my claim. Since I didn't initially have the paperwork to file my claim on my own, I might have used them if it weren't that they were going to end up with almost all of my "refund."
