Start with a 600mm as you'll want to see what's coming from far off.
Then work your way down to a super wide (10-24mm (DX) or 14mm (FX)) so that you can capture the whole event in one wide shot.

But MOST important of all before you (and the rest of us all perish), make sure you post your pics on here for us all to see one last time! :p

Sam, I appreciate the lens tips! It is nice to see that everyone on this thread is taking this so serious.

Probably not enough time to get next day from Amazon, I will have to make do with what I have.

I have a pretty thick magnifiying glass I can stick between my camera and the 55-300, I bet I can do 600 mm easy with that.

Maybe I could cut the 18-55 lengthways with my tile saw, use some duct tape, and maybe get 9-27.5. Let's see, with the crop factor, that would get me to about 14 on the wide end - I bet that will work!

I can tether the laptop to the camera, and that should get the fastest possible transmission of the pics, so everyone can have a bang-up time seeing what is coming!

I need to know how to prepare??? Will it start with the whole world ending all at once? Will that be GMT? Perhaps it will start at the international date line and destroy one time zone at a time. Any Ideas????

Well it would have to be a Nikon...Maybe the 10.5mm so you can fit all the strikes in one frame...

You will definitely need a filter I would recommend an infrared....Or a converted to IR Nikon camera..


PS don't forget to duck...

If the link works I made it easy for you Mike. Your computer may adjust to your time zone not sure.

what is the difference between UTC and GMT? I don't know, that why I'm using the countdown link​

UTC is Universal Time Coordinated it officially replaced Greenwich Mean Time in 1972 but nobody cared except scientists.'

To be honest, I had already planned to take Friday off, so I'll be in my Lazy-Boy chair relaxing when it happens.

Alan, since you are kinda on one side of the earth, and we are on the other, if you see something coming/happening in your direction, you could warn us over here. We could do the same for you. I am thinking if we jump really high and are not touching the ground when it happens, we might be transported to another dimension before we are toast.

I'll need to have all my gear together in my bag, so I can take it all with me, of course. Need to exercise a little so I can jump with all that junk, hope I can get off the ground with it.:saturn:

The AxeMan's clock will be *really* helpful to co-ordinate emailing and jumping/ducking!

This could work.

We will see it happening here before you folk in USA so i'll be the bearer of bad news...

I'm afraid I wont be able to jump high enough to miss it as I'm rather CHUBBY & OLD..

Anyway stay drunk...
