I just wanted to acknowledge the British/UK television and movie productions that have come out lately.

I am absolutely loving the new Sherlock series I get here on PBS channel, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and many other movies I have watched on Netflix that I would have otherwise never known about.

Television going back to just good production and a lot less of the CG and other special effects that permeated so much of American shows.

Its nice to hear you say these things but in the UK we feel the standard has dropped in the last 15 years or so,any one watched one foot in the grave,my wife says i am Victor Meldrew

Good to hear. I keep seeing this series on my Amazon Prime movie list (or was it Netflix?) but I've yet to give it a try.

Sherlock is a great one. I'm enjoying Orphan Black which was a BBC production. Been running it on demand during morning sessions on the elliptical.

You're all very welcome

The BBC is brilliant here - both good programmes and best of all... No commercial breaks!!!

is there a US equivalent?

Yes - it's called Premium Channels, like HBO, Showtime, Starz. They actually are producing similarly great television of late, and are really the only series we bother to watch.

Wot? No Downton Abbey? But thanks all, despite a recent tail-off quality is slowly creeping up (but with apologies for ITV's absolutely dreadful Mr Selfridge)

For the radiophiles out there you MUST find I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. Originally chaired by the magnificent (but now late) Humphrey Littleton and now hosted by stand-up Jack Dee. The funniest "quiz" that ever, ever existed. Warning: English sense of humour probably required.

And just to remind the American inmates where it all really started: Lewes in East Sussex.
