Slow SD card

Using live view. When I first bought the camera when I took a picture it would save to the SD card and return to live view in about 10 seconds. Now it takes about 20 to 25 seconds to save and return to live view. I am using the same SD card. Why is it saving so slow now. No changes in any settings.

First of all, welcome to Nikonites. Hope you enjoy the site. :)

OK...how many pictures do you have stored on that card already? You should download them to your computer hard drive, then reformat the card in the camera.

What brand of card is it? Lexar? Kingston? Other? What size is it? 4GB? 8GB? 16? 32? What speed rating is it? (You should see a number within a "C" such as a 2, 4, 6, 10). I use 6's and 10's.........10 being the fastest transfer rate.
Check out all these things and get back to us.

Jack,

Thanks for the reply. The card is a Kodak High-Speed SD HC C-6 32GB. It has been reformated several times. It dosen't matter if the card is empty or there are photos stored on it. I have tryed in auto mode and manual.

What are you taking pictures of at the time? Does the camera shoot rapidly and you're waiting on the image to be written to the card?
Have you tried an alternate card?

I have tried shooting inside and outside. I have tried a different SD card. I am using auto. When shooting a single picture in live mode, the camera takes about 20 to 25 seconds to save to the SD card and return to live mode.

Probably a silly question but I'll ask it anyway...!

Do you have image review turned on in any of the settings, and if so how long for?

Gave this a little thought and for some strange reason came up with the notion that the image review setting may have been inadvertently been turned on or put to a longer viewing time.

I think at this point you should either visit the dealer who you purchased this camera from and show him your problem. If you can't do that then contact Nikon and see what they have to say. Clearly your problem is not one most people have ever experienced and at this point it's looking like something is wrong with your read-write mechanism.

SS381, not at all a silly question. Image review was turned on. I haven't figured how to see how long the review time was set to. I turned off image review and now I can take a picture and it saves to SD card and returns to live view instantly! Thank you, thank you. Thank you, fotojak and Mojo Dave for your replies. Great fourm.

Glad you got the issue resolved. :) Hey...just for fun...see if that issue is mentioned anywhere in your owners manual. Probably not, but it wouldn't hurt to see if it's mentioned in there, right? :)

Jack,

I read the manual. It does help. Under image review you can turn image review on or off. Under auto off timers you can set the on time for several things including image review.

I knew it was worthwhile asking the silly question then :)

Glad you got the issue sorted, and that you found the menu item where you can set the timers too (in case you switch image review back on :p)
