November Monthly Assignment: Travel (Needa's choice)

Planes, Trains, Automobiles, anything to do with travel.

IMPORTANT TO READ THE FOLLOWING:

Let's get shooting! CREATIVITY/TECHNIQUE rules in this challenge, but there are a few guidelines:

1. Any photo submitted for a monthly assignment must be taken using a Nikon Camera! All submissions must be taken during the month specified in the assignment thread and taken by YOU including all parts of composites!

2. If the EXIF does not show using a browser EXIF app, listing the camera and capture date/time below the photo is required. Listing exposure info, lens & focal length is encouraged so others can learn.

3. Other than that, it's all up to your interpretation of the theme. Any photo will be accepted, SOOC or edited, doesn't matter.

4. Photos must be posted in this thread to be considered. Links to photos will not be considered an entry (In other words, no Flikr, Photobucket, or similar links)

5. Only THREE entries per member for each assignment. Please post entries separately (1 photo per post) and number the entry. It is acceptable to delete a post and submit a new entry, replacing the image within a post is not.

6. Entries will be judged by the number of likes received.

7. The top 5 shots will be displayed in a separate thread and will be displayed in no particular order.

8. This is intended to be a FUN challenge. No critiques unless specifically asked. Also, please limit posts to just photos and brief descriptions/titles. Any comments/discussion should occur elsewhere, PLEASE.

As listed in other challenges, please note: NO CASH OR PRIZES will be awarded for this Monthly Assignment.

HAVE FUN!

NOT AN ENTRY!

About four months ago, I got a new toy, a 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. This is a car that is made to go places that normal cars cannot go.

Of all the “This is what a Jeep is for.” pictures that I have so far taken, this is the one that I would most have liked to submit, but alas, it's from October, so the wrong month for this challenge. Hopefully, we'll manage to go somewhere interesting enough in November, to get some good pictures to submit, here.

This is @Seanette and me on top of Masonic Mountain, on our roundabout way to Bodie. Don't even think of trying to get here in a normal car; you won't make it.

OK, so here's a first entry, not really expected.

My Jeep seems to be possessed by a powerful supernatural spirit of wanderlust. It frequently demands—and I dare not refuse it—that I take it out for long drives, preferably to places that normal cars cannot go, or at least places I've never been before, and would otherwise have no reason to go. I wonder if Jeeps in general, are all like this. A couple years ago, @Seanette and I rented a lesser Jeep than this, for about a month, and I noticed a similar trait to it, albeit not nearly as strong as with this one.

For the past few days, I've been operating way off of a normal sleep cycle, and my Jeep was demanding I go somewhere. Where is there to go, in the middle of the night? Finally, I gave in, at about 02:30 this morning, and went for a long, random drive. It being dark, I didn't expect any good opportunities to take pictures, but I brought my camera along, anyway, just in case.

So, at around a quarter past three, I'm on some remote road in some farmish area, and I decide that the view out my windshield was worth photographing. (And no, my vehicle was not in motion while I took the picture, it was in park, with the parking brake engaged.) It's a stitched panorama, beset by the usual distortion, parallax, and discontinuity issues that some times are unavoidable with such pictures.

Here is mine. I finally managed to set it up and shoot it. And now, I am tired and I have to put everything back! 🤬 😎

Nikon Z7 II, Nikkor Z 35mm, ƒ/1.8 S lens. Gitzo tripod, Arca-Swiss Cube C1 geared head. Flash lighting (3 lights). Composite made of 7 focus-stacked exposure, set using the built-in function on the camera. Stack processed with Helicon Focus.

This is what a Jeep is for—to go places that you cannot go in a normal car, even if the only reason to go there is that you can, and people with normal cars cannot.

Somewhere along the Texas Hills Road trail.

I'm sixty-two years old (my one-minute birthday was a few days ago), and this is the first time I have ever driven in snow.
