Thanks Bill! That was neat to see. After using that I think it will help on deciding on which additional lenses to add. I have to say it would be terrific to have one up to the 600mm range but in all reality I wonder how much use passed 300mm or 400mm would be utilized. Thanks for sharing that. I don't recall ever seeing that before. I must have zipped right past it.

I have a 70-300mm and would really like to have more. I cannot use a teleconverter on my current lens (it's a "G") but I am looking at the fixed 300mm f4 and using a 2X converter when needed to take it up to 600mm.

Not sure what the point is in being able to select the lens type (fx/dx) as it makes no difference it seems!

Good to get an idea of reach though.

It does make a difference for someone that is considering going to FX in the near future. If you are 100% sure of never going to FX, then DX lenses could be an investment, but if you plan to go Full Frame (FX), it's a wise choice to start the lens stable at an early stage. Then when you buy your FX camera you have lenses to use on it.

Look closely and when you don't see a difference in the photo you need to notice that the "crop" box to the right gets checked and unchecked. A DX format lens on an FX body will not yield a full frame and will operate in DX mode, automatically cropping the photo. This is something you can override and crop manually to get a little extra room, but how much varies with individual lenses so I can see why this is done this way. Similarly, if you have an FX lens on an FX body it allows you to check the crop box on your own showing how it would look in each mode.
