Nikon D7100 won't stop blinking

I've had the D7100 since November and I've never had a problem with it, except the fact that the green light in the back flashes constantly. I'm pretty sure it's because of the third party vertical grip I have on it (the brand might be Meike or something like that) but I've also had problems with the memory card; wherein it won't read any card I put in it over a few gigabytes, even after formatting it. Any suggestions? I've called Nikon tech support but they were no real help.

Welcome to the forum!

The green light on the back of the camera relates to read / write operations on the SD card, so I guess it is related to the card not being fully utilised.

I assume your card is listed as compatible, and you have tried different cards...Have you tried without the grip? What about the second card slot?

Smells like a bad SD card, or cards, to me. I'd suggest you try swapping out the cards with new ones from a well known maker like SanDisk and see if that solves the problem.

I have tried different cards from all different brands, Sandisk included, and it just kept giving me errors. They were all formatted beforehand. I have tried it without the grip, which does stop the blinking sometimes, but I think the card contributes to it too.

Do you get the same capacity from slots 1 & 2, or just slot 1? If you are using a single card, which slot is it in?

The first rule with cards is - do not use the cards before formatting them in Camera. Formating outside the camera is not always compatible with camera software/hardware.

Just to amplify this comment... You *MUST* format the card in-camera because that process is what creates the folder-structure the camera uses to store the image files. Without those folders being created the card is a non-starter. Formatting them on a PC creates the FAT32 file structure but not the system folders the camera needs.

I have never had a problem with re-formatting previously formatted/used Sandisk brand SD cards of the 4G type. I always format/re-format in the camera as well.
