This is a newborn I photographed this week - he isn't actually due until tomorrow :)

Isn't it amazing? New life that is. The "new" smell. Perfect skin.
And then they grow into toddlers, and the only thing you can smell is a collation of burps, up-chuck that is still ingrained into the lounge 6 months after the fact and those horrible stinking nappies, that no matter what they promise on the box, still leak. Everywhere.

But aside from the stench, babies provide us with so much more. The kind of unconditional love that only a parent could ever know. I can honestly say if my husband pooped his pants, wet the bet constantly or left dribbles on the toilet, I would definitely have to rethink our version of "unconditional love". But with my kids, I know it's something that I forgive so easily.
All it takes for me to melt is my Miss 3 to say 4 magic words: I love you Mummy.

Do you have kids too?
I have two. Miss 3 and a Mr 1. Absolute terrors.

You look back on your life after you've had kids and you think to yourself, what did I do before they came into my life... because, they ARE my life now :)

My princess is eight, and my mini me is four :D
And you don't know terror until they both squabble :p

Mine are 37 and 33. Each have two of their own Girls 8, 5, 4 and boy 2.
I think back on all the aggrivation and irritation they caused me. I remember wondering if any of us would survive another year without causing bodily harm to each other. But you do survive. You watch them mature and grow up. They they have children of their own and you get to start all over again. I am a grandpa now. Nicest part is being able to play with them but pass them to mommy at diaper changing time.

Mine is 19 mos. I had a photographer take photos of my son and I treasure those photos because its hard to remember when he wasn't talking to me and jumping all over the sofa.

I'm very interested in newborn photography since I have a friend who is going to let me do pictures of her baby in May. Any tips other than the usual things I find via Google?

SuperSpike113 - my only tip is practice the simple first. MASTER simple before you even attempt the difficult poses.
So many photographers make that mistake I think. Simple can be sweet and perfect.
Under 2 weeks old is supposedly the best time to take photos... Sometimes I've found that it's not the case. The baby in the shots above was 6 weeks old (although he was a premmie). Getting them to sleep is half your battle, it can take HOURS for them to nod off, and maybe only 1/2 hour to take all the photos once they're asleep!
Good luck!

Spoken like a real, true Mother!
Now I'm only a grandfather, but am still in awe of the sheer beauty that are my childrens' children. The last one (No 6 ) was born on my birthday, making it an extra special day.
