I have beenactive in photography since 1978. I have a Nikkromat with 28 mm 50mm 55mm135mmand 300 mm lenses. I now have a Nikon D90 with an 18-200mm DX VR lens.
However, themain reason I have joined this forum is to get some advice on the sale of mylate friend’s camera equipment. Finn was a very fine photographer withan extensive package of Nikon equipment, all film and all manual focus lenses. Finn taught me all that I know about photography and sadly he passed away lastSeptember. I am helping his cousin determine fair valuefor his equipment andsell it if possibly on the local market. We would prefer to avoid Ebay if atall possible. I am interested in what the experts on this forum think about fairvalue. I have talked to a few professional camera stores but they are reluctant to provide advice unless we commit to sell through them on consignment. Based on what I have seen on EBay, I looselyestimate the value at ~$10,000 USD.

The equipment is as follows:
Lenses: (all older lenses have been factory converted to AI)

15 mmf5.6Nikkor- QD.C (321965) Immaculate
16 mm f3.5FisheyeNikkor(290403) Immaculate

probably ebay is your best source of used market pricing. while you may not like the idea of selling on ebay, you can do a search through the sold items of each lens. this can help you determine what people are willing to pay on the used market. you can also use b&h photo as a reference as they offer a "sell your gear" and give you estimated values.

Now do keep in mind that when you sell to a reseller, they need to make pricing affordable for both you as the consumer and for themselves to make a profit. otherwise there is no point in them doing business. If you do not like what resellers have to offer then by all means you should be selling the item yourself, and this is the only way of maximizing your own profit.

All lenses are at least factory converted AI. I believe these to be the 24, 35, 55 macro, the 105 (f2.5) the 180, 300 (f4.5) and the 500. I believe all the rest are post 1981 and probably at least AIS.

Skene: Thanks for your advice. Yes, I kind of figured on he reseller issue and have will advise the Estate to sell on Craigslist at the very least sell. I've sold several things successfully on Craigslist. The Seattle market monitors Vancouver Craigslist and I had someone come up from Seattle. I have no experience with Ebay.

Finn at his prime: A selfie on Mt. Kilimanjaro 1982, before they were called selfies! Probably Kodachrome 25.
