Can the trees be saved?

I thought they could have been saved but when I went in the house to talk to Chris, I didn't see him go out back door. By the time I realized he was outside he was already chopping them up. When I asked him why he was chopping them up, he said he had no clue. I gave away most of the green papayas to the security guards at Wako. I still have 14 left. I've been waiting for months for them to grow and ripen. At least the remaining tree still has flowers and fruit.
