Found this to be interesting since I guess the D800E would be the current benchmark for resolution in Fx. I was pleased to see two of my favorites, the 70-200 f4 and the 18-35g which is a fantastic value.

Rick, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 is on the list. Do you have that one?

Based on your previous photos and comments about the Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G lens, I decided to get it. It is amazing! :D

Though I have the "non-E" D800, I'm not at all surprised by the inclusion of the 70-200 f/4. I love mine! I seem to get the most "keepers" with the least amount of effort with it. The VR on it seems to work better than other VR lenses I've tried, for whatever reason. Focus is pretty fast and very accurate. I consistently get tack sharp images with it. Due to the significant weight and size savings compared to the f/2.8 version and the fact that the D800 handles high ISO so well, I don't believe I would trade it for the f/2.8 version even if the latter were the same price!

I had it and sold it. As much as I liked it, I found I didn't use it much since I like the 18-35g so much. I love the weight and results of the 18-35, sharpness has been compared to the 14-24.

My thoughts exactly, it is razor sharp even at 200mm.

Lens results from DxOMark...how quaint. I put about as much stock in those reviews as I do KR.

I think most of these review sites just re-affirm the obvious. For the most part, usually expensive lenses are good and some third parties are good, and some inexpensive lenses are good too!

But the results for the two we are discussing are pretty much echoed everywhere.

We all like what we own don't we! That's why research is more important than recommendations.

As legendary as the 80-200 f/4.5 non-AI was (I had one for many years that I AI'd), the AIS 80-200 f/4 trumped it fairly handily in most areas. Just because it is not AF without VR does not mean it is still not worthy of mounting on any camera, film or digital. And it is a hell of a lot cheaper
