Best D7000 Focus Settings for an Outdoor MMA Match?

I will be taking images of MMA fighters during 'golden hour'
I have a D7000 which is just fine for models.
So I see that it comes down to me choosing from the smaller sensor area versus 3D tracking.
Anyone with experience with this have any suggestions?

Former D7000 user here. The 3D tracking is going to work best with f/2.8 lenses and not that great with something in the f/5.6 range in dim light. Having shot a few yo-yo contests inside a mood-lit mall, I just set to AF-C and tried my best.

An f/1.8 prime may be your best friend if you are in close.

Focus settings are crucial for capturing sharp, clear images. Modern cameras offer options like autofocus, manual focus, single-point, and continuous focus modes to suit different shooting scenarios. Choosing the right focus setting helps isolate subjects, track moving objects, or create artistic effects with selective focus.

So tonight I did the test shots in a park.
I do models and am happy with my D7000, F/1.8 35 and 50MM and a 70-200 F/2.8

Test shots - https://tinyurl.com/LakePlacidMMA

1. Tried the 70-200. Too slow being mechanical focus. Images 0 -449 . Great for models but not live action.
2. 50mm - better results - all other images

As for the lighting we started a bit early but it was for testing.

I was using 3D and was wondering if I should be using a different focus mode if anyone has any suggestions.
