Battery issue D90

Got myself a D90 with MB80 grip. Charged both batteries and installed in grip. Left overnight.
If I go to battery info the left hand battery is 80% and battery age 0 (new).
The battery in the left slot is 100% and age 0 but has an exclamation mark over the battery icon.
Just dirty terminals maybe?????

Do you get the same results if you swap the batteries?

I only have one battery that shows the age on my D7100. The other two show zero and one was purchased a week after I got the D7100.

Swapped then around, left hand now has the RHS battery and 88% and 0.
right has the old LHS battery and is 62% and 0.
Now both the slots have an exclamation mark on the far right terminal.
They are both Nikon EL3a batteries don't know when purchased. I'll run them both flat and recharge.....

Run them until flatlined then try recharging. You can speed up by using flash. If not used for awhile, probably needs needs reconditioning. Battery plus can test them for you.

Got two cheap aftermarket batteries but after less than ten minutes there are no lights visible on the charger!!! Going to take them back bite the bullet and buy Nikon... Anyone concur with the meaning of the horizontal exclamation mark?

Do you have this issue with the batteries if you DON'T use the battery grip? Also, is the battery grip itself an OEM (Nikon) grip, or is it third-party?

Thanks for the ideas Fish
I recharged and put the old Nikon batteries in, 75 and 83% respectively.
If I don't use the grip and put each in the battery chamber they show the same percentages. It is a Nikon grip. Also noticed the battery icon is horizontal and the exclamation mark is vertical

Go to page 208 of the manual. The exclamation over over the battery indicates the battery has reached the end of its charging life and should be replaced. But if the were working fine before the grip the problem may be with the grip.

Strange - my d90, using a grip, shows both the exclamation mark and the word New for each battery (?)

Thank goodness you're here Bill, we share a problem. Bought a supposedly new Nikon battery charged it. Installed in camera 100% and NEW but the exclamation mark is still there.....

Just recharged my batteries - shows for each battery: 100%, new, exclamation mark, and just noticed says 0-4 as for age. Both my batteries are at least a year old. Me thinks there is a software/firmware glitch, I do.
