    Tammy 18-400 mm

Thanks for your response bluzman. This lens seems to have that 'hump' at around 300mm as well. I don't mind. It doesn't stop zooming or hang up, just has to have minimal effort to go past. I've been using the lens. It still functions perfectly. Quality won't match a prime lens, we all know that...

    Tammy 18-400 mm

I'm back. Sometimes you just gotta find someone to tell stuff to. Ran across a 'damaged' 'parts only' Tamron 18-400 online. Description said that zoom was stuck. I took a quick trip to Youtube, found a disassembly/assembly video and decided to chance it. I messaged the seller, a camera shop in...

I'm on a Dell Precision 5810 with gobs of both memory and a fast Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1620 v3 @ 3.50GHz processor. I have my system set to auto dump temp and unused system files, etc. For pages of images to refresh takes a long time, often seemingly freezing. I'm unaware of anything else I...

Reading through posts, my questions are probably already answered but ... Am I possibly doing anything that slows down loading, or page refresh rate? Is there anything I can do to speed up viewing/posting? Actual times to navigate is often 90 seconds. I haven't been on much for this reason. Sam

Amazing capture. After many years of following eagles, I still get a thrill every time I see one.

So far I'm still very happy with the used 16 to 300mm Tamron.

    Tammy 18-400 mm

Ran across a used Tamron 16-300mm. Seller listed as in 'very good' condition. Bought it. Opened the box, it's looks new. There is not a scratch or scuff on it anywhere. Not fair to the lens but I mounted it on my ancient D5100. Caught a day with decent light and took some test photos. I'm...

    AF Zoom Sweet Spot?

Good rule of thumb. It may vary lens to lens as well so I guess it's best to get to know one's own equipment. Thanks for weighing in.

    AF Zoom Sweet Spot?

Glad to see we apply the same technique ;) I think I'm getting similar results. Just wanted to see if others have actual hands on experience. That's the great thing about this place, real people with real world experience. I can do dozens of 'what if', 'maybe if you', 'I read' scenarios. Nothing...

    AF Zoom Sweet Spot?

I combine two hobbies. Wildlife photography and hiking. To my own detriment, I don't have any prime lenses. I do like getting the best quality images I can from my AF Zooms, however. I've read, and agree, that with most 'all in one' zooms, quality will drop off at max telephoto settings. Do any...

Is the light colored one leucistic? There was a leucistic Mallard hen here for several years. I have dozens of photos. She was a favorite on one of my little nature trails.

Awww darn. Thanks Peter, I already have the Tamron 150-600. Can't justify two lenses of the same range. Sam

Thanks Woodyg3, and I agree. I do have a couple of Tamron zoom lenses but I always question the image quality. I have mostly Nikkor lenses but would love to try more Tamron and at least one Sigma lens. I've never had anything from Sigma.

Used to be several on a small island here before NPS 'acquired' it and started 'managing' it for 'balance'.
