FREE!!! 18-55mm Kit Lense

I am wanting to give away my kit lens that came with my D5100. It is in perfect working condition just upgraded recently to a better lens. Now the reason for doing this is to save that one person a little extra cash and just being able to by the body of a camera and save a little not buying the kit. The main reason I listed it on this site for free is the mutual respect from everyone on this site. Everyone is really great about helping each other and this seems to be the best way I can help someone. I can easily get $65 from my local camera shop on a trade up but I woul rather try to help someone out on here. Maybe I can get someone to take the leap to DSLR when they were hesitating at first. I will only ship to the US some please don't ask for international shipping prices. I am even going to pay the shipping because I have a "buddy" that works as the local USPS. If you have any questions please ask. Thanks

(I geuss the first person that wants it can post on here and then I will arrange a way to get it to you . Thanks);)

hey rook, if it's ok with the mods, see if you can post a contest to win the lens. a photo contest that you'd choose a subject and judge, or a "pick a number between. . . " contest. let it run a week or so. I myself am not interested but it would be fun to see a small competition. it's up to you in the end. just a suggestion. thanks for your generosity. it will be greatly appreciated. good paying it forward.

I'm not afraid . . . YOU WILL BE. . . YOU WILL BE. . .

If you want to do something like that it is OK with me Jeremy.

I'll tell you what Jeff. If there is a contest and I win, I will state here and now that you can be shipped the lens.

I like the contest idea and I will do my best to win. You have my word that you will get the lens.

Is that cool? :)

Well then I geuss it is a competition we will have. I will just let a moderator make a challenge and the winner will get my free kit lens shipped to them. If there is a moderator that wants to volunteer a challenge and judge the winner please say so. I unfortunately do not have the skills to judge others photos. So just let me know what we are going to do. I am game for a good contest. Good Luck!!!

Drat, I never do good at photography contests --- why can't we have a Watermelon seed spiting contest?

If it was me, I would give it to someone close by like in Oklahoma so if they take lousy pictures with it, you are close enough to drive down to Oklahoma and pull his ears. ;)

Rookie, that's pretty cool, bud. Very generous of you to do that. I like the idea of the contest, too, however.........since two of our esteemed members promised the lens to Jeff should they win, there's a bit of a conundrum here, in that I feel the judging would be biased towards Jeff's entry. See what I'm getting at here? :) I, too, would like Jeff to have the lens, as I already have one, so if I were to issue the challenge, and ended up judging the pics, I would want to have Jeff the winner, regardless of how his pic turned out. Unless there was a unanimous consensus among all participants to "give" Jeff the lens, there has to be another way to do this. These are just my thoughts, mind you, and should in no way be misconstrued as being impartial to the final outcome of whatever method is chosen for the lens giveaway.

Jack, there comes a time when you just have to trust in the honor and integrity of a person that is judging. I completely trust you do be fair and impartial no matter what you are judging. Why do you think I keep entering these challenges? Because I totally trust everyone here to be honest. If we lose that, then we have nothing.

Just my two cents worth.

Pete, ya made me blush! :) Thank you, sir, for your confidence in me. I absolutely do my best to judge impartially, based on how I feel about the photos being judged, not on how long the entrant has been a member or how "close" some members are to each other. A lot of us have been here since the beginning of Nikonites and have formed certain bonds over time......and this can be seen by others as being partial. Understandably so. But I do my best and I also rely on the input of my fellow mods to make an impartial judgement in such contests and challenges.
I get on here when I can due to other obligations and time limitations imposed on me. However, I can honestly say I give my all to this site when I AM here, because I believe in what Nikonites stands for and what it provides its members.
LOL...as I write this, I've just been called to another job! Gotta run! Talk to you all later! :)

yeah I feel bad for recommending a contest now. lol. Jeff WAS the first one to reply. I should have read the first two post thoroughly before posting. in all fairness rook should just donate the lens to Jeff. but may be have a tribute contest for Jeff as the recipient anyway lol. in the end its up to you alls . . . sorry for opening a can of worms.

Jeff, I'd shoot in your behalf as well. you were one of the first members that chimed in on my threads when I first joined. I always look forward to what you have to say.

I'm not afraid . . . YOU WILL BE. . . YOU WILL BE. . .

Super Mod
I'd love Jeff to have it. He won the contest by responding first and he does need the lens.

It wouldn't be fair to have a contest if the participants don't have the right tools to win it...

So I vote for Jeff.

I was about to suggest that the lens be donated for a Nikonites photo contest/weekly challenge :) You could think of it as a way to help out the community and maybe get some more rookies in here ;) It's up to you though, Jeremy.

Here is what I think.

We need to start a Nikonites Orphan Lens Library deal. Let this lens be the first one. Since I called it first let me be the first to "check out" the lens and in 30-90 days or so I'll "check it back in" so then someone else can use it for 30-90 days. Perhaps members could donate lenses to this project. You could select a moderator or someone to manage it all.

At any rate I would use the lens (despite having 28 and 50 already covered) because of the auto features just to test them out and very likely I would pass it along here at Nikonites if I got something better or was just done with it.

Actually, the lens should be yours simply because you responded first, as stipulated. But in any event, the decision is not ours to make.

THAT privilege goes to Rookie. I like the idea of an orphan lens library, but bad things happen to good people.

What if a lens gets damaged and the person that checked it out is not able to pay for it? I can see where this could lead to bad feelings

without it being intended. Either way, I'll trust Rookie to make the appropriate and correct decision. :)

Find me a wide angle lens and you can have my 18-55. I use my 18-55 for HDR wide shots. It's hard to get those across the street shots with a 35mm.
