Hi Guys, we have just used our new SB910 in anger for the first time at a wedding and found that a set of fully charged batteries were not lasting very long at all. Normally we would use two sets per flash but the SB910 used up six sets !!We use rechargeable 2300mh batteries and have used SB800's without ever having a problem. I always use the additional battery facility on the SB800's but do not feel this alone, not being on the SB910 that is, is the route cause.Have you guys out there had any experience's with the SB910 and battery useage or do I have an odd one ?Many ThanksRobb WebbRobb Webb Photography

Hi Robb, welcome to the site!

Was the flash overheating? Were all the batteries the same brand & mAh? Regardless it does seem odd that you'd use 3x the batteries. A better comparison would be to the sb-900 though.

You don't mention the type of battery used, other than they're rechargeable. Maybe a set of Eneloops will do the trick for you. It's all I use in my SB-700 and they seem to last forever. I very rarely charge them. I've done a whole wedding on one set of batteries.

These are the ones I'm talking about. Don't be put off by the low mAh number! These things last forever!

I can't help with the SB910...Sorry

I've had the Eneloops in my flash for ages, sometimes don't touch it for a few months and they still have heaps of charge...

I would do a test comparison on how many flash can you take per battery set between the SB 800 and SB 910. It is possible that you have some type of electronic circuitry that is consuming or discharging the batteries at a faster rate. If that is the case, you can still send it to Nikon for a check-up.

I get a lot of flashes out of my SB900 with a set of eneloops. I have never kept track, but typically change once throughout the day in each flash at most. This is in typical length weddings and receptions, with the usual photos before the ceremony, and a lot of shooting in the reception.

I would expect the SB-910 to have similar performance.

i have also had battery issues with my sb-910.
it started with the flash not functioning with rechargables that work great on my other flashes. than i bought new eneloops. worked ok at the beginning, than the flash started not to respond to camera settings (aperture, focal length, ) as if it was disconnected from hot shoe. this problem persisted. when i replaced the eneloops (1.2 1900ma) with 1.5v alkalain batteries the flash worked fine.
Seems like either my flash is not properly working or that the model required higher amperagve/voltage?

anyone had similar experience?
