Recommendation for single strobe for very small studio

I've attended some workshops at pro studios and enjoyed the quality of using strobe.

I have a area in my apartment for shooting and have backdrops.

I have a D90 and would like to get a basic strobe light to get started.

Can anyone recommend a specific strobe to consider for close range.=?

Can anyone recommend a forum where I could find someone to give advice? 522 views of this thread and nobody was willing or able to answer.

I started with standard Flashes with radio remotes but my first purchase was a Sekonic Flash/Ambient light meter. Watch Joe Brady on you tube to under stand how the meter works. Use one flash with a modifier umbrella then a soft box. When you master this then do research on which type of studio flashes that work ac/dc they have come a long way when I bought my Flashpoint studio’s in 2009. Also get saddle sand bags and sturdy light stand do not go “cheap”! Look for a used Sekonic L358 would be worth a good addition.
