Magmod Flash Modifiers

I read through what forum posts I could find on the Magmod flash modifiers but couldn't find any reviews here. There are a few members who mentioned getting something from the Magmod system, but does anyone have any feedback from using it? Magmod has the Sphere, a grid, a bounce option, gels, and a snoot. Plus there are a few new options in the works via Kickstarter.

There are lots of online reviews and videos--and I've looked at quite a few. The two biggest downfalls I can find are the weight of the Magmod Sphere can sometimes pull down the flash head, and the magnets can have an adverse affect if a hard drive is nearby.

Does anyone have any sample images using it? I didn't see any at all here. Thanks for any comments and/or constructive criticism. One reason why I am leaning towards it is I am not a big fan of velcro--and most other flash modifiers attach with it. Plus this system is so versatile with all the options it offers.

I have grids and the sphere.. I want more :) I like this system much more than the gary fong system which is over rated. The fact that I can change from grid to sphere to snoot to magnifier just by pulling it off the magnets or adding to it, I think, pays for itself. Not cheap, but the people at
I don't have sample images though.
I have a SB700 flash and the sphere doesn't pull it down.

The people at magmod are good people too. Customer service is great

Thanks for letting me know, Mark, especially about using the sphere on an SB-700. That's one of the flashes I use. From the looks of some videos, even larger flashes are getting their heads pulled down, but I know my Nikon flashes seem to be very secure and strong when adjusting the flash head angle.

Magmod offers a variety of packages which wind up being a little less expensive overall than when buying each item individually. One advantage is using these outside--they are a lot smaller than umbrellas or softboxes--so less chance of wind damage from getting blown over (I do have sandbags just in case).

For those who aren't familiar with the system, a MagGrip is necessary to attach the items to a flash. Some people who bought the Mag Sphere separately weren't aware it didn't come with the mount (MagGrip).

I'm not sure that these are available yet, but the device that holds 2 flashes side-by-side inside their softbox looks interesting! Not sure if they are calling it a MagRing?

The stole my magnet idea. I want a commission.

I was fiddling with an idea of attachments using small magnets instead of velcro, but life got in the way. I still might mess with it some when I get a chance.

There are a few helpful videos on the MagMod site. For those who might be interested, this one explains the differences between the MagSphere and the MagBounce and when to use one vs. the other.

Along the same lines, this video helps to explain the differences between the MagGrid and the MagSnoot.

And for those who may be concerned about magnets near hard drives, they address that in this video.
