Using external flash without TTL, can I still leave camera flash control in TTL mode?

Greetings,

For D7500, when using an external flash that does NOT support a TTL mode, do I need to set flash control on the camera to manual, or can I still leave flash control on TTL mode regardless?

Thanks for any advice.

I don't think it will make any difference so long as the camera settings are put in manually (shutter speed, aperture, and ISO). Don't use auto settings on any of those.

The camera flash control menu (saying TTL, Manual, or Commander) is ONLY for the internal flash. It does not matter what it says if the internal flash door is shut, it is unused then. External flashes provide their own mode menu, or are Manual flash only. Camera also needs to be in its Manual mode if a Manual flash is used. The manual flash cannot follow changes to aperture or ISO.
