HSS off camera flash - do the triggers matter?

I've been working a lot with off camera flash lately and I've realized what I can do is being limited by the fact that none of my flashes are capable of HSS.

I am going to buy two HSS capable flashes. My question is whether or not which triggers I use matters.

I currently use these cheap Altura triggers. They work awesome. No complaints. Can I use HSS with these, or do I need triggers that are specifically capable of HSS?

I think if a trigger supports HSS it would boast about this - well at least mention it in the specs. Not all do. I know when I was searching for a trigger system HSS support mattered. And as I recall it makes a difference with flash you are trying to trigger, even if the flash does hss the trigger needs to 'trigger' this. I'm happy with the Godox T1 solution.

I'm looking at Flashpoint R2's since they have a receiver built in. I'll check out the Godox though.

you are checking out Godox

Adorama rebrands Godox as Flashpoint - same thing, different label.

Godox is the maker - vendors re brand it under many different labels - although you can find it branded as Godox in some stores. I have a pair of the V860ii TTL HSS speedlighs with the lithium battery. Love these lights. You will still want a trigger on the camera so that you do not need to mount one on the camera - the R2 is sold in sets. Godox just released a new style trigger you should ask Adorama when it will be in.

As a point of confusion enhancement, another popular and very functional HSS capable flash controller system I have become fond of is the Yongnuo YN-622 transceivers and YN-622n Tx transmitter(actually is a transceiver also). I built what was likely the first CLS compatible RF controllers into my D90 when it was new, several years before PW was out with an RF controller for use with CLS. I had retired that system long ago because my GF uses the D90 and has no interest in flash or strobes. I built two strobes for studio use at that same time which I hardly turn no nowadays. I found a couple new surplus aircraft strobe flash tubes so built the whole circuit, got it working and later made a copy. I had moved to a newer lower ceiling apartment so there was not much space for big modifiers and shifted to speed lights. My shooting changed, studio time was so cheap per hour it made no sense to build one up at home. I got into speed lights, and their lower power fit what I was doing, using 3 SB900's I added the low cost Yongnuo controllers and was so favorably impressed I added one of their YN-568 ex $99 flash unit. After a week of sharing duty with the 7 times more expensive Nikon speedlights I added two more YN-568. The YN-622 controllers are about $49 each and seem very rugged, and resistant to my dropping them several times on hard surfaces. So far, none of them have failed to trigger in the system, controlling power, groups and modes remotely is a snap on the Tx with easy to read LCD display. Still impressed with the price, construction and functionality. HSS works great.
