Yongnuo 622N-TX with YN685

Hi, all!
I generally use Flashes in M mode, mainly in studio, but I'm interested in TTL, specially for events or socials, when you have to take an image fast.

So I bought a Yongnuo 685 and a Yongnuo 622N-TX. I read the manual and there are a couple of things that I cannot understand.

When I set the flash on my Nikon D750 with the flash in TTL mode , the preflash is almost simultaneous. When use the YN622N-TX on camera and the YN 685 off camera the delay between the shutter button press/preflash and the real flash/shutter release in noticeable. A second or something like.

When I change some setting in YN622N-TX, it will not show on YN685 display (for example flash power in manual mode). It will update only after the shoot. (This is the opposite of what I'm used with YN 560-TX with YN 560 IV. If you change something on TX it will sync immediately in 560 IV.

When YN622-TX is on camera, AF assist will work. When YN685 is on hot-shoe, AF it will work as well. If YN622-TX is mastering a YN-685, none of the two will have AF assist. Do I have to choose it manually?

Do you have any idea?

Thank you!

Well...

I'm figuring out few things:

1) The delay may have to do just with the flash recycle time :/// (shame on me)
2) The info update when you push test button in the transmitter. I'll will search for other solutions.
3) Third point... It was easy. Just manually switching on the AF/SS button :// (shame on me)

I don't have the YN685, so no direct experience there.

2) The info update when you push test button in the transmitter. I'll will search for other solutions.

It should be easy to test whether this is a display issue or a delay in syncing changes. Try setting the flash power to one end of the power range or the other (so either 1/1 or 1/64) and hit the test button so that both the 622 and 685 show the same value. Now take a test shot with the camera in manual mode. Change the power setting to the other end of the power range (now either 1/64 or 1/1), and take a second test shot. If the two samples are identical, the settings aren't getting pushed until the controller triggers the flash. The test samples should appear different, and would indicate it's just the display that's not getting updated on the 685 until after it fires.

I'll do it but I have the feeling that the flash is updated but it doesn`t show it. For example if it's M and change to TTL, it will not show TTL but it will shoot TTL (I understand that the flash in in TTL mode because it exposes well without changing any setting). Or if it's in manual and I go 1/128 i get the result I would expect in 1/128.

I could be something related with batteries and sleeping mode... maybe. I'll check it.

That's my thinking as well.

Well. I did the "rocket cowboy's test"

The YN 622N do send the info to the flash that shoot as you would expect (I tried in M with 1/128 and 1/4 and they were to completely different images. the fist dim and the second bright)

But it updates the display only after the pop

I then set 685 as Rx (for 603) and used 560 IV-TX. It was updating immediately as it should.
I set also a YN 560 IV flash as transmitter and the 685 as receiver and again work great!

Besides the 622N not always connect well hot-shoe. You have to move it slightly to find the right contact.

Well... I'll figure out what to do.
