Hi !

As some of you will be aware I'm quite new to this so I'm not really wanting to drop fortunes on equipment just yet, I could suffer more on lenses than a flash though :)

I'm finding it to be a bit of a minefield right now. A friend recommended a Youngnuo, but some don't seem to have the TTL. Is this necessary ? I assume for a novice photographer any help is good. For the time being anyway.

Thanks for reading,

Mark.

The Youngnuo is an excellent choice. Pick one that does have TTL though. It will be easier to learn and use.

Thanks ! The model I've been looking at is the 568EX.
I've also seen some great reviews about the Shanny600n. Any opinions on these ?

I also have a Yongnuo 568EX and use it frequently. It's a extremely capable flash and easy to use.

Shanny makes a damn good stuff but I don't happen to own any.

As Don mentioned, you definitely want TTL. Some Yongnuo also offer HSS (high shutter sync). Not everyone wants that feature, but just be sure to check it out in case it sounds like something you'd want in the future. And not all camera bodies support HSS. It's just that if you want it in the future, if you choose a flash that doesn't offer it now, then you'd have to buy a new flash. Make an informed decision...that's all I'm saying. ;)
