Hey,

I use a one gallon, any size will work, it can be one of the semi clear type or an opaque plastic bottle...from say a milk bottle or etc.

Cut a hole and stuff the flash inside.

Works great.

Some quick and dirty diffuser ideas that have worked for me in the past; though admittedly some worked better than others:

  • Motorcyle Gas Tank
  • Buffalo Wings
  • Sofa Cushions
  • Neil Young CD
  • Decorative Macrame

I'm going to have to remember the tissue paper. I stopped by my brother in laws workshop after his funeral to admire all of his model cars he had built. This would probably be the last time I will get to see them in one place because his widow will probably auction them off soon. All I had with me was my trusty D50 with it's on camera flash. I tried using a small piece of paper to bounce the flash off angle but it didn't work out. Most of the shots were either under exposed or the windows were bright flashes of reflections.

Now I am thinking I probably would of been better off grabbing a piece of tissue paper and holding it in front of the flash. I didn't think much about the 2 LED flashlights I had in my pocket. I thought about using them instead of the flash but I wasn't sure of the what color they might add to the mix.

I'll have to work up some ideas for next time I am dropped into an impromptu session.
