I don't know much about speed lights so I need some advice on this flash: Yongnuo YN-568EX. Have any of you guys used or are currently using this flash? Will this flash be powerful enough to "black out" my background?

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!
;)

Have one... Use it... Love it. It appears to be everything my SB-700 is, at a fraction of the cost.

I've got two that I used in my portrait test I posted this week. I'm likely to add a third 568EX based on the feedback I received. :)

I don't have the 568, but I do have the 565EX, the 560 III and the 560 IV, with the 560-TX controller/trigger. All are excellent and I wouldn't go back to the Nikon ones for anything!

The major difference between a 565 and 568 is that that 568 also does HSS, which D3xxx and D5xxx cameras cannot do anyway. And FWIW, the 568 cannot add an external battery pack.

BTW ... talked with Tim and I can leverage the existing 568EX's I have by simply adding the 622 triggers to them. Not a combined solution like the 560IV with built-in triggers, but leverages what I have already. :)

I have only had them a couple weeks, haven't had a lot of time to play with them yet but they are quite nice I have been impressed with them. I bought two of them to use as off camera flashes and think they will do the job perfectly. The Yongnuo is much easier to use than the Speedlight SB700 but the manual is a bit difficult to decipher. But there are youtube videos that explain things :D

I have/had a lot of flashes. I had both the 568 and the 565. Bought the 565 about 6 months ago. Gave it to my ladies daughter. It has known issues with the 622 and not firibg at tines. I had that in two weddings and thats a big no no in ny book. I have 6~662n so it was the flash. Great flash abd i could have fixed the problem wigh usibg a sync cord but I passed it on.

I had the 568 for a bit more than a year. Same power both of them. 568 has easier display to deal with imo. Numbers are larger abd more legible.

Both are excellebt flashes. Verg strong. Very fast

LOVE the spring in the door to hold it open!
LOVE that u dobt need to press a head release button to swivel/tilt the head.
Small details that nikon doesnt have.
Even the battery diagram is easier with the yn flashes. It has a nice white diagram. The nikons are inside the battery sleeve. I know the orientation but many dont and try readibg it on the dark dance floor ib a wedding. Aint gonna happen.

A $350 sb700 doesnt even have a basic sync port. What greedy cheapskates. And I have that flash as well.

Personally all ny attention is on shanny flashes now. And the pixel flash if they ever release for nikon. Only canon now.

All i can say is that these asian companies are killing it.
A $100 flash has what almost anyone needs.

Whatever u do, your photography level will no go above the "natural light shooter" and u can never go into elite levels. Knowing how to use flash is where u learn about light

Its not about usibg the flash but understanding light. U dont need to use flash to ubderstabd luggt. But know how to get what u want by controlling it and knowibg how-to o get the final imaged you envisioned is the difficulty. Knowing how to mix ambient liggt with flash is a true art

There is no pro (experienced) who doesnt doesnt know how to use flash proficiently

Some of my past findings-
Yongnuo 568EX vs Nikon SB-910 - Skvora Limited Photography

Albeit an unfair comparison, but it's what I currently own. Could be my copy of 568, but it performs choppy in TTL and in communicating with the camera and helping set auto-iso as one example. HSS works very well. Wireless sensitivity and distance is much worse than 910. All in all, I never knew that YN flashes can have some of these issues because my experience with 565 was excellent.

Compared to SB700 the iTTL mode on the Yongnuo doesn't seem to expose as accurately, I have only tried it in the house a few times but it occassionally overexposes compared to the SB700 with the exact same setup.

Its not a problem though since I will use the Sb700 for on camera flash and bought the two Yongnuos for the off camera slaves.

Yep the 3rd larty flashes have bad accuracy. There's some proprietary software/hardware eith nikon gear that makes the accuracy better with their flashes. The camera shuts off the flash but there is something there in the gear that speaks between them.

Its the same with canon and aftermarket flashes. In thebreviews the flashes are always off.

For weddings nikon on camera, off camera, it doesn't matter at all

Its not that the nikon is so much better but i know what ill get wjth nikon when i see a scene many times and have to adjust FEC for that

Coming very late to the party, as the YN568EX and 622 trigger/transceivers worked flawlessly with my Nikon D3300 from the era of this thread. Have recently upgraded to a D850 (yay for generous husbands who dote on their wives!) and tried the 568EX for the first time today. No joy; it is not firing. Passes the fire test on the trigger and flash units, still works with the D3300. But will not flash with either the trigger or a flash extension cord.

Do any of you with D850s have luck with the 568EX? Or will the 568EX iii work? My accessories budget is slim after this hefty purchase and I need to stay in the Yongnuo line if need to replace.

Thanks,
Wellies

I'm not familiar with the D850, but after reading some (Google), is the Flash menu on the camera greyed out? In some shooting modes it may be.

Is there any type of firmware update for that flash? The D850 is a newer camera. Maybe check online to see if a firmware update would affect that camera.
