Sooo, which triggers to get...?

Happened to open up some funds and I feel its time to get a set of decent triggers and maybe another cheapy TTL-capable flash like the ones @WayneF reviewed last month. Ideally I'd want to be able to pass the settings from the 600 to the receivers to avoid having to mess with the flashes themselves each time I want to adjust something. Can YN 603's do that or should I just for for the 622N set? Also, any other solid choices out there today?

The YN603 cannot do that... manual flash only on simple radio triggers or optical slaves.

The Nikon Commander can do that with compatible flashes, like the YN565EX or YN568. Or Nikon SB-700, etc. Commander is an optical system however (no radio), so direct line of sight over limited range.

YN622 is radio, but I don't know how the YN622 TTL works. They say remote TTL, but I don't know any details of how. It has a menu like the Commander, so possibly much the same? The remotes are in TTL mode (instead of Commander Remote mode), so I assume communication is same as hot shoe TTL?

Did some reading up and seems the 622n-TX is the only real way to go. CLS is horribly limiting outside of close spaces and near distances, so RF or 2.4ghz is crucial for what I'd be doing with these. Otherwise seems like besides the 622 TX there's almost nothing on the market that offers camera-side controls withing a reasonable price range.

I'm very happy with my non-ttl pocketwizards. Patience allowed me to save a bundle on used units from eBay and photo forums.

I'm happy with my non-TTL Phottix Ares... but I guess when you work with monolights, that aren't TTL no need for the added expense.

Well, less so TTL or not than ability to set everything wirelessly and not gimmicky (read on 622N themselves, and how you have to play pacman with buttons to blindly increase or decrease flash power remotely).

ttl with off camera flashes are overhyped, not accurate and a waste of time to deal with. I have 6x622N and Ive tried TTL once in a whole wedding and it will be the last. its just not accurate.

if youre shooting a studio setup then a TX module will be fine but you lose the ability to use a flash on the camera which we must have when we shoot weddings. the on camera flash lights the subject were shooting and the off camera flashes on the outside of the dance floor shooting in are fills.

on camera TTL, off camera, ONLY manual power for precise control picture after picture. you can simply use the TX to adjust the power output from where youre standing. try it and see that youll get a wide range of exposures using off camera flashes in ttl.

I'm just about to get some triggers and thinking about YN622N/TX combo.

How do I do what you described here: a flash on camera to light the subject plus two off-camera flashes for fills?

Let us assume I have two off-camera flashes with YN622N triggers, and I want to trigger them still having a flash on top of the camera.

Do I understand correctly that YN622N is a transceiver, so it can trigger other YN622Ns? Can I put the third YN622N on my camera and flash on top of this, and trigger the external flashes? And, at the same time, can I control their output from the TX unit off-camera?

Yup, that works. You can put the 622N on top of the camera with a flash as well, and use the 622TX off camera.

I have 1x YN622N-TX and 4x 622N receivers, I did a whole lot of researech, reading and watching Youtube reviews and the only 'budget' solution that came anywhere near as close was the Cactus system, tbh I love being able to inc/dec the power from behind the lens, if u haven't bitten the bullet i would go for it (only issue i have had is the hot shoe mount sometimes doesn't seem to slide in too well on my Yongnuo speedlights and i get this weird strobe effect and buzzing noise, same thing if the batteries are low too - very weird)
