Review of the $56 Neewer VK750 II speedlight flash

One more review posted at Review of the Neewer VK750 II Speedlight

This is the Neewer VK750 II speedlight. $56 seems an amazing price for such a lot of flash. A few less dollars than a Yongnuo YN560-II, but it does TTL too. And very well at that. I was surprised how often it seemed to get it right. About 150 very positive user comments at Amazon.

This one does not have the features of HSS or Remote operation with the commander, but many cameras don't have a commander anyway. Its missing a few basics like beeps, but it does TTL, Manual, and Slave, very well.

It zooms 18-180 mm, however 18 mm is for DX, FX better stay at 24mm. Neewer dealers are offering six months warranty, and Amazon does easy initial returns too.

Anyone put off about getting into flash due to the prices, ought to check this one out. Easy menus, easy to use, just seems to work. Seems just right for beginners to get their feet wet on.

I was thinking about another Yongnou 560 IV but I'm looking at this flash instead. I like the TTL function. I could use that as my on board and the 560 IV and my sunpac as a slave

Nice review Wayne. Looks like just the flash for my pocket book, when I get to that point in my photography experience.

My VK750 kit arrives today, so I'll have the weekend to try it out. Kit includes flash, two cables, flash trigger and camera remote and hard and soft diffusers.

Having trouble figuring something out though!! Flash works great on camera. Tried remote operations today, and it's not working as I expected. Putting the flash in S1 or S2 mode, it will not flash when off camera. However, it will flash off camera when in the TTL mode.
I didn't expect that. sounds opposite of what it should be, isn't it??

I've got the transmitter mounted on the camera, the receiver mounted under the flash with the sync cable hooked up.

Mine works in S1 with no issues. I haven't thought about trying that in TTL.

I don't know, maybe I'm mis-interpreting how this operates. The way the Chinese translate their language into English makes it tough reading these manuals for sure.
I'm now thinking that S1 and S2 are to be used when THIS flash is a slave to ANOTHER flash, one or both remote.
This is the only flash I have so maybe that's why it's not flashing in S1 or S2. To say I'm confused is an understatement.

Yes, it sounds backwards (if using S1 correctly). However the actual problem is that we do NOT use S1 or S2 with a radio trigger.

The flash should be in Manual M mode for a radio trigger.

The radio trigger is used INSTEAD of optical S1 or S2.
If no radio trigger, THEN consider S1 or S2.

OK thanks. I've got the kit with the 2.4GHZ transmitter and receiver, and they trigger the flash in remote operation perfectly in TTL. Never even thought about trying M mode yet.
