Nikon SB-600 Flash out of sync w/ shutter

My SB-600 is firing out of sync with my camera shutter, and won't fire at all in manual mode on the flash.

I've tried resetting the flash.

Not sure if it's broken or if i'm using it incorrectly.

What do you mean "firing out of sync"? Tell us what you are doing? What does the flash actually do? What does it not do? Please add some words.

What camera? Is flash on the hot shoe? or Remote? If so, how are you triggering it? In what flash mode?

Another very good question about sync is, what is your shutter speed? Try not exceeding 1/200 second.

Might help also adding a photo from one of the "Out of Sync" photos.

Guidelines to adding a photo to your post.

1. Resize photo to 1000px on the long side.
2. Resolution set to 72ppi (Pixels Per Inch)

These guidelines will be good for viewing on a computer but will not be good for printing. This will help safeguard your copyright.

i'm using the flash on the hot shoe of a d7100.

By "out of sync", i meant that when the shutter is released and the flash fires, the resulting photograph has not been affected by the flash. I assume it's either too late or too early in relation to the shutter.

I have not exceeded 1/200.

Thanks! IMG_7151.JPGIMG_7152.JPG

That does not sound good then, the hot shoe does not work like that. The manual flash should fire in sync and I cannot imagine what could keep it from syncing at 1/60 second shutter, or anything you could do to prevent it. We can imagine things if a remote flash, but hot shoe just has the one possibility. You say unaffected, but I assume the flash is actually firing? In a lighted room, it can be hard to tell in the viewfinder, since the mirror raises to close off that view during the shutter.

I'm sorry, I don't know... it does sound like a hardware problem. Some way to try the flash on a different camera, or the camera with a different flash might lead somewhere, at least to confirm the problem.

I am having the same problem! Just out of the blue. Worked fine last week. Flash is firing, but the exposure is very dark, so it's ike the camera/flash is not syncing? Camera takes image fine without the flash. Turn flash on: flash fires fine, but underexposed, so is camera shutter too fast or not in sync? Tried resetting flash AND camera. Turned everything off and on. Cleaned contacts. Batteries are fine. Flash fires on TTL and TTL bl, but not on M.
Did your problem resolve????

Flash fires on TTL and TTL bl, but not on M.

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

Very odd that other modes work except for manual mode, since manual is the least complex with only sending the signal to fire the flash and not doing pre-flash measurements. Are you also using slow shutter speeds as above, in the 1/60 range?
