Nikon Speedlight SB-500 flash announced | Nikon Rumors

With the D750 getting all the love, I did some reading up on the new SB500 flash. I have not seen any mention of a PC Cord or miniphone sync port.

Not having this on the SB-700 was suprising as I dove into OCF. Is this an issue with the SB-500?
I know the big thing on this is the LED for video, but I'd think a port for remote triggers would be a given in 2014.

Thoughts?

I have an SB-400 and it's a dandy little flash that's really rather capable. I'd have an SB-500 on hand in a heartbeat if it wasn't going for a whopping... (wait for it...)

two-hundred and fifty dollars!

Somebody pinch me... Are we talkin' AMURIKAN dollars??

You can add a $5 or $10 adapter to the foot of any speedlight, to add a PC or mini sync port.
Ebay has plenty. I recently bought this one for another purpose, and it should work fine.

This one has the pin lock, and the way to release the pin lock so you can get it off is to rotate the wheel all the way to the top.

Based quickly on the Nikon web site info, the SB-500 appears to less than SB-700 class (same lower power level, but NO LCD menu, so surely fewer and minimal options). The big feature is that it has a mode to output weaker continuous light for video recording.

While I agree you can add an adapter, I have one for my SB-700, it is disappointing to need to do so.
My $35 Neewer flashes even have these ports.

Agreed, it does seem a shame to get good flash features, we have to go to the cheap Chinese imports.

SB-910 has it all, but $550 ? Some camera bodies don't cost that.

Nikon seems to be adopting the policy "don't confuse the newbies with features". :) I am cynical, but newbies don't want PC or bounce flash or useful power, they still do compact camera flash.
