Got my Pocket Wizards in last week

Everything worked fine right out of the box once I got the batteries in properly. I wanted to be able to use my flashes at the higher sync speeds so I decided to program them to do the extra options that are available and off I went. I found the USB port on the Mini TT1 and programmed it but could not find the USB port on the Flex5. No matter what I did the units would not talk to each other and fire the flash. After several hours vocalizing things that I will not mention here I ended up calling Pocket Wizard to get some help. He said all I had to do was program the Flex5 like I did the Mini TT1 and I ask him how that was possible without a USB port to plug into my computer. I had looked several times and couldn't find a port anywhere. He suggested lifting up the antenna and taking a look. Much to my surprise there was a USB port. I plugged it in and programmed it to the same channel as the Mini TT1 and amazingly it all works just fine now. By using the Pocket Wizards I now have a flash sync speed that will go all the way up to the 1/4000 shutter speed my D600 will go to.

A buddy of mine has told me many times over the years that "You have to be smarter than what your working on". Once I got a little smarter everything just seemed to fall in place and work just fine.

I never realize the benefits of having a much faster sync speed. I'm glad that it worked out well. I currently don't have a "need" for the pocket wizards for now but would like to experiment on what I can do with it.

Thats great Jeff, let me know what you think as I am starting to look at these as well. Nothing like a senior moment, right.

One of the reasons I wanted the faster sync speed is for use at the beach. Lets say I want to take a back lit picture at the beach and use some fill flash for the subject. If it is very bright out or I want to use a larger F stop to blur the background the shutter speed would probably go over my flash sync speed of my camera and prevent me from being able to use any fill flash. By having the ability to go to a high sync speed I can still use my speed-light for fill with the higher shutter speed. Before I had the Pocket Wizards and my shutter speed needed to be over 1/250 it would eliminate me being able to use any fill flash. As it is now I can go as high as I want on the shutter speed and not have to worry about using a flash to fill in or keep my subject from being a silhouette.
