I just ordered a SB-700 for Christmas. Anything I should know?

Looked at the cheaper ones like a sb400 and Yongnuo too but decided I wanted the "nikon" on the front. I have bought third party stuff before and always seem to be buying again to replace it.
Paid $320 for a new SB700 and am excited. It will last for years and years which is why I went for it.

Congrats, enjoy that new flash. I agree with your 3rd party assesment. I have dropped both my SB800 and SB910 on concrete floors, nothing happened to the SB800 and the SB910 I had to buy a new defuser, both units continue to work great. I have the Yongnuo wireless triggers, they work fine but are a little flimsy in construction, makes me a little worried when I have a $500 flash mounted on them. I was using my SB800 on an external bracket at a wedding when it fell off (forgot to lock it), batteries flew out of it when it hit the floor but worked great after I put it together and that was several years ago (I double and triple check the lock now). My SB910 was mounted on a Yongnuo receiver in an umbrella and fell off and hit cement. My 2 cents on build quality.

Since you mentioned replacing things, i'd advise grabbing some rechargeable batteries for it (and a spare set) if you haven't already! :)

Congrats on the flash i'm sure you will love it.

Wise choice on the SB-700. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it...the SB-700 is "Idiot Proof". :) It works, and it works very well. This is a flash you will NEVER regret buying! As for batteries; see if you can get your hands on Eneloop AA's for your flash. They're the last batteries you'll ever want to buy, they're that good!

I recently got the SB 700 replacing my Nissin Di866 which was a good flash but the main reason was the recycle time which was a little bit long on the Nissin.

Saying that I have also noticed that with the SB700 the exposure I am getting is much better than the Nissin - very happy
