Any users here with positive or negative comments?

I can't get my head around the price of Nikon flash offerings and from the reviews I've read this flash comes highly recommended.

After a few hours of reading reviews including camera forum posts and again blanching at SB-700/910 costs I've ordered a YN 565EX for $148.00 delivered.

I use the 565EX and I love it. It works flawlessly. I mainly use it in TTL mode. I also got a diffusor to go with it that helps a lot as well.

I have a 565 but haven't used it enough to offer comments. So far, no complaints whatsoever.

Technically, the 565 offers a battery pack option but is limited to 1/250 sync (1/320 under the right circumstances)

The 568 II doesn't offer the battery pack option but does have HSS, as I recall up to 1/8000.

Everything I read and hear about both is nothing but good.

Question on the sync speed... My D5100 sync's at 1/200... what good does a higher sync speed in the flash do if the camera will not support it?? Limited knowledge here as you can see... :)

The only reason I mentioned the 568 is because Tami Jo's listed camera is a D7000 which will support HSS up to 1/8000. The D5100 doesn't support HSS and I don't think there's a workaround.

Thanks ok, I was partly right then on the 5100... I also have a 7100 so that should be supported, I will look into that.

I really don't know much about flashes, does this unit have TTL ?

the YN 468 II has TTL also, at a lower price. The 565 looks real good too.

I think the major difference is the 468 only operates in TTL mode on camera. As a slave it must be used in manual mode. The 565 can be used with TTL on or off camera. Significant price difference.

Pat, correct me if I'm wrong, but 5100's max sync 1/200 is only with the on-board flash since its quite limited. If you're using external, its whatever the flash unit can handle (like strobing for higher shutter speeds).

That said, I too am debating 468II or 565EX since differences to me are marginal and I don't think I'll need that extra power/reach... but you never know at the same time. Question is whether it'll be worth the extra $60-80...
