Good morning

Could anyone please clarify whether the Nikon BF-1B body cap is designed for the Nikon F3 lens mount, like it is with more modern SLRs?

I would like to buy a new body cap for my F3, but its original - the BF-1A - is very hard to find new and I don't want to buy one used, just in case it may not be genuine.

Thank you in advance.

Tom.

From Nikon's web site:
Please note: camera may have shipped with BF-1A. This item is no longer available. The BF-1B (4347) has replaced the BF-1A.

The cap is for F Mounts so it is backwards compatible. Many years ago, I remember Nikon changed the rear caps although they fit the older lenses.

You're welcome. In the case of the rear lens caps, I found I preferred the fit of the new ones over the older style. I don't know what they did differently, but for me, the new ones simply offer a more snug and secure fit. So I'm guessing the body cap design might be slightly improved, too.

I don't know about 'hard to find'... there are dozens of them on eBay for less than $5

Nikon F mount is Nikon F mount. I don't see any reason why any Nikon F-mount body cap won't work. Nikon-brand or 3rd-party. It's not like there's mechanical or electronic connections that need to be made.

The bayonet mount hasn't changed since it was introduced in 1959.
