--> Photo Editing Software

--> Specialty Software for Photography

A "Printing" category would be very helpful to those just getting into printing digital photos. It can be very confusing, and frustrating, just getting the printer to work with the computer and print out what is seen on the screen. If there is a forum they can go to ask questions it would make life easier. Been there done that.

I understand, I so seldom print anything. Just the other day I had the need and after switching computers realized I didn't have the right software loaded to print 4 - 3X5's on a page. After scratching my head I finally remembered and downloaded it. My wife always comments that I don't do real pictures since I seldom print. For snapshot type pics hard to beat walmart, walgreens printing.

I love Ruidoso, lived here for 12 years now. I have PS CS3 but but mostly use Corel, use View NX for raw conversion. Couple of specialty programs like Portrait Pro etc. I do a lot of web design work so Dreamweaver, Serif Web Plus and some left on Front Page, couple of different flash programs and whatever I need for a project.

I think those sub-forums are a great idea, however, I rather wait until there is more topics to move into these forums before creating the forums. Otherwise we'll have forums that are pretty much empty.

I know that I'm overwhelmed with the choices, and even more daunted by the thought of using the software!! Just learning the camera and how to use it is daunting enough without the stress of worrying what to do once I obtain the images.............ugh. Seems like most folks use more than one program, each with it's own learning curve and idiosyncrasies. Doesn't make coming to the DSLR world very easy. I love my camera though so far.

Don't try to bite off more than you can chew. Start with a good photo management program and learn that. When you are comfortable with it then look for others that will support your style of shooting.

Guess I just don't understand why there can't be a software program that does what one needs, doesn't cost a fortune for the amateur like myself, and is easy to use.

Oh, you're describing the Nik Software plugins - if you can use a slider, and deal with nearly instant results, then you can use the Nik Software. I founded a forum for the software NIK Forums - A Community of NIK Software Users which has mostly owners of the software - among them Nik Software employees to answer questions.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I just don't want to end up with a program that I outgrow, and then can't edit any old photos with the new program if needed.
