Did you install an extension for exif viewing? Go the three dots in the upper right corner, then go to Settings - Extensions and see if there is an exif viewer installed.

I use MS Edge. I use to see the EXIF on my photos, but one day it disappeared. Sometimes it shows up on my D7100 photos, but mostly not.

I tried the ... option, but right clicking on the image doesn't work if your image is copyrighted.

nikonites.com says

Copyrighted image. Please obtain permission before using.

If you're using LR make sure that it is set to include metadata when exporting. Mine had gotten changed before, maybe from an update.

Maybe I misunderstood the question, but I thought Nikonpup was unexpectedly seeing exif at the top of the screen (or notifications that none was available.) So I thought maybe he inadvertently installed a photo analyzer plugin that was showing him this info as he moved his mouse around.

Ron,

I found that if I post my photos centered instead of oriented to the left that the EXIF data goes to the top out of the screen on this site. Post to the left and the exif data shows up in the shot when using mouse over. I still haven't figured out how to get by the Capture Date being stripped from the exif data on this site.
