Open from Email Fails

I get notices in my gmail daily about any forum thread that I've posted in or commented in. Very handy.
Until this morning clicking on the link in the email opened a new window and showed me the latest post in that thread. nice.
Now the window opens, I get a brief glimpse and then it closes.
Suspected anti-virus, but by turning off various features I found the culprit.
My Ad Blocker. (I use "Adblock Plus") and I do disable it for some sites, including this one. I don't mind seeing the ads on sites I support, I know you get revenue from them. So it is off when for this site.
But for other sites the ads are too much and I block them.
But turning off ad blocker allowed for direct access from gmail. Even though Nikonites is an allowed site it won't open from gmail if ad blocker is active. I can still open it directly.
Not sure if this is an ad blocker thing or a Nikonites thing.
Hate to have to decide whether having ad blocker is worth losing this direct access via email to the latest posts here?

Change happens.

I have adblock plus on Chrome and Thunderbird email. No problems clicking the the links whether adblock is active or not on this site. I did have a problem awhile back with nikonites links not opening from email, but strangely it tracked down to only not working if there was a special character in the thread title. Like a $,%,!, etc. Somehow, that made the link not work right.

I think I narrowed down the change.

Seems on the 13th Adblocker updated this "Easy List" feature which prevented me from opening Nikonites from my gmail. Seems to work when de-selected enable Easy List. Will let you know if the problem returns.

And I do have Ad Blocker turned off for Nikonites, and see all the ads from our wonderful sponsors (not sure how that works because they are always seem to know what to promote to me, and I know clicking the link to the vendor does generate a few pennies per click for the site. However the problem seemed to apply whether or not AdBlocker was enabled for Nikonites. ... and yes Fred, I really should contribute ... . .. . . .

$9.99 a year is only a couple cups of coffee. (From what I have heard, I don't drink coffee)

Done -

But didn't click on "pay" for the free Nikonite Cloths. Since it shows up as $2.99 +$2.50 S&H, US$ I may pass on buying the free cloth, or make it worthwhile and go for the five pack, or not. I just paid $9.95 for a border inspection fee on anotherorder from the US of A the other day. If that happened to this order then that free cloth may cost too much.

But a member I am.

Just need to remember every St Patty's Day, Nikonites will dip into my pot of gold for a renewal ... :)

It is a worthwhile cause. I love this forum and have made many great friends and learned a lot about photography. Now you can see the shout box. There is a lot of fun going on in there.

Make a contribution to the forum, and there are no ads... then you can turn AdBlocker OFF

Simple... ;)

Be a contributer ... they said
There won't be any ads ... they said
Ya sure. ...

Well except these ads.

But I can live with it, and having a shoutbox takes away the big banner ad on top.

And I did select the $10.95 annual option so maybe that just gets rid of some of the ads.

And I'll still get tol see my pretty soul mate when her ad pops up.

.... one new twist that is a bit of a bother. I have to open a blank text box to type my message then cut and paste it into the reply box because if I try to type directly in the reply box, the spacebar does not work. At first I thought my keyboard crapped out - too many cookie crumbs under the spacebar maybe? But no, spacebar works fine in Notepad, and I can cut and paste into the Quick Reply box. Curiously it does work in the Shoutbox? Oddity of oddities eh?

For the space bar thing, try clicking on one of the two A/A buttons in the upper left corner of the reply window.
The same thing happened to me at work. I just assumed it was part of the quirkiness of being on a network computer. It does not happen at home.
